Dear Brenda, Dennis, Carrie and all the family,
So sorry to hear about your loss.
Don was a wonderful man, calm and sensitive, with a warm smile, a pleasant manner and a great sense of humor.
I will always remember how Brenda and Don were so kind and welcoming when I first came to Toronto in 1997, a strange young relative with a weird culture and religion. You went out of your way to make me feel comfortable and loved, part of the family. Don was not one to travel but had vast knowledge of places and people worldwide. He’d read all the biographies of famous people from Israel, and could teach me a thing or two about my homeland history.
Even when I came back to visit a couple of times alone and later with my family – husband and 3 children – I was always welcome in the Andrews household, made to feel at home and surrounded by family. Don never made a fuss, took it all in his stride, and made every visit, meal, or party homey and lovely.
I also remember visiting your cottage, still amazed how Don had built the whole house – including the furniture, deck, shed with his own hands!!! With his calm and patience his abilities were exceptional.
Don once joked with me and told me he could easily be a religious person, only he wasn’t quite sure which religion is the right one. He was worried he’d choose one religion, stick to it, and eventually one day go up to heaven and God would sit there shaking his head, saying “no no you got the wrong one”…
Well, I’m sure, in his own special way Don did plenty of good in this world, spreading warmth and love, and making everyone around him feel the radiating wonder of his precious soul.
Sending you lots of love and hugs during this sad time.

Dear Brenda and family: Please accept my deepest sympathy at Don’s passing. Don and I were cousins….his father and my mother were siblings…and we grew up living one concession road apart. I have many pleasant memories of those times. But life happens and our times together in recent years have been few…our last was a great visit at a school reunion. Hoping that special memories bring you some comfort in the days ahead. Sincerely, Gwen (Mundy) Reeson
