Funeral Details: Private Family

Born in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan to Charles and Norah Hooker, Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Douglas (2004), her son Bryan (1980) and her grandson Patrick Tone (2014). Much loved by her daughters, Judy (Ray), Jan (Dave) and daughter-in-law Edith (Herbert).  Nana to Matthew, Dylan (Rachel), Emily and Karen. Great-Nana to William, Andrew, Olivia, Brooke, Willow and Delilah. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews in Ontario and BC, especially Dean and Kelly.

Doreen and Len met in his family’s grocery store in New Westminster, BC. After they were married in 1947, Len re-enlisted in the RCAF and thus began their nomadic life across Canada and the US. Eleven moves and three children later, they retired to Barrie, ON and bought their first home. Len became a teacher at Georgian College and Doreen worked in retail. Eventually they retired again and enjoyed life travelling, golfing, bowling and volunteering at the Barrie Food Bank. After Len passed away, Doreen moved to Brampton to be closer to family.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family members will remember her life privately. Internment will be at Barrie Union Cemetery beside her loving husband and best friend Len. They are both forever in our hearts.

Our sincere condolences to all. It is so difficult to say goodbye to those we love, even when you have the privilege of having many many years together. May your memories be a comfort. Love John, Ellen and Family.

I’m so sorry to hear about Doreen. She was my dear friend from fitness classes. After Len’s passing I would pick her up on Collete Street and she rewarded me with bottles of his wine. We spoke many times when she moved to her apartment, but then she had voice problems. My deepest sympathy to her family.
