Doreen Lilian Howard (nee Pomeroy)

Funeral Details: A private family Celebration of Life at a later date

Our family is heartbroken to announce the very sudden but peaceful passing of Doreen after a brief illness at RVRHC in Barrie on May 17, 2026.  Doreen, in her 83rd year.

Loving wife of Bruce for 61 years.  Amazing and much-loved mum to Andrew Howard (Christine), and Jennifer Lalonde (Michel).  Adored grandma/neema to Jacob, Gabriel, and Victoria (Jordan).  Special “grandma Doreen” to Anthony, Connor, and Brooklynne.  Doreen also leaves behind her siblings, Sandra, Lee (Liz), and Cindy (Jeff), as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend thanks to the nurses at RVH for treating her with dignity and comfort in her final hours.

Doreen’s greatest passion was her love for her family; her grandchildren brought a special sparkle to her eye and pride to her face.

Cremation entrusted to Peaceful Transition.  A private family Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the RVH auxiliary would be appreciated by the family.

I remember Aunt Doreen’s smiles, positive and happy demeanour and always a great person willing to chat. I also appreciated her cooking skills and a special recipe she shared with me. Rest in peace. Love my wife and I.

Mrs. Howard was THE neighbourhood mom when I was growing up. She made us feel safe, organized fun activities, fed us (even passing finger sandwiches through the school fence so we could have a picnic), and shared many stories and laughs. A very sweet lady. I am so lucky to have grown up with Mrs. Howard across the street.

Sending much love to Jennifer, Andrew, Mr. Howard and the rest of the family. May the sharing of fond memories bring you solace.
