Dorothy Rose Fitzgerald

April 5, 1927 - December 17, 2021

Funeral Details:

Our loving sweet angel has entered into heaven and we’ll miss her dearly.  Dorothy, born in London, England, lived every day with love and joy in her heart and never had a bad word to say.  She was a free spirit who always had the giggles and found making someone smile a challenge.  She was bubbly with an outgoing personality.  Her smile was huge and her attitude was positive.  She met her late husband, John, at Kodak in England.  Dorothy was a stenographer.  They moved to New Zealand in 1950 where she worked at a biscuit factory.  Her first daughter was born there.  They travelled to Australia and back to England where a second daughter was born.

Arriving in Canada in 1954, she raised her children with lots of love and teachings, taking them for walks almost everyday and laughing with them constantly.  She made many friends and was a Sunday school teacher.  She also enjoyed working at Shoppers Drug Mart.  Her baking and cooking were exemplary, including Christmas fruit cake and pudding.  She knitted, sewed, played bridge, held parties for others, sang, danced and juggled.  She tried new things like sledding and going on huge roller coasters with her family, bowling, cross country skiing and trying to learn Spanish.  She was the nucleus of our family.

Daughter Sharon “Shannon” Calladine and her husband “Bob” will miss her forever.  She will be together once again, with her youngest loving daughter Debi and her kind hearted beloved sister Barbara in Heaven.  She was a dedicated wife to the late John and adored her grandchildren, Tyler, Jarret, Kelly and Dash and 10 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.  Dorothy leaves behind her adoring baby brother John, a cousin and many nieces and nephews in England and friends whom she loved so very much in both countries.

Shannon and family, I will miss Dorothy’s hugs, her devilish smile, her sense of humor and trying to keep up with her when she was driving her little yellow sports car. Dorothy was truly a gentle soul with a bright light that shined from the inside out. She was a lovely lady and will be missed. Take care and sending tons of love to you all.

My heart is broken. I fell in love with with Dorothy in grade 3 some 49 years ago and always wanted to be adopted by her and to be Debi’s sister. She relented after Debi became ill and from then on she was “Mom”. Her eternal youth amazed us all, buying her sports car, her leather pants, driving Debi across the country for treatments. The most AMA big lady ever, loved her and will miss her terribly.
