Faye, Sarah and Daniel. We are so sorry for your loss.  Doug was a great friend who touched many many peoples lives. We have wonderful memories of a 42 year friendship from high school through today, including Doug as best man at our wedding and godfather to our daughter.  While he may be gone from this earth, he will never be forgotten.  We miss him dearly and will always remember him with love.

    Faye,
Shelley Fryer called and told me about Doug.  I am so sorry Faye – I knew Doug was ill but I didn’t realize how serious it was.  I still think about you guys and when you lived on the street.  I actually taught Sarah’s oldest daughter Natalie a few times at Assikinack.  I’m at the same number in the same house.  You are always welcome to pop by or call.  I would love to reconnect with you and to help or listen in anyway that I can.

Uncle Doug was a good man and a great uncle to me. Some of my first memories of learning how to throw a football properly was from uncle Doug and some of our conversations of right and wrong that will always be remembered and cherished.  And all the talks about music and memories sitting around the fire up at the trailer will never be forgotten.

    Love you all

    Jeff and Ryland

Faye, Sarah, and Daniel, we are so sorry for your loss. Doug was a great Husband, Father and Grampy. We will miss his laughter and great conversation, and most of all his friendship. He was more than just a Brother-in-Law to us, he was a Brother. Going to the Trailer will not be the same without him, but we will remember all the good times we had up there together. We all enjoyed meeting up there just in time for cocktail hour, but the hour was never just an hour with all the conversations we had. You will be forever missed and never forgotten, Love You, The Sisters.

It is always such a difficult time when we lose someone that we love. The pain and sorrow seem unbearable.  In time, that which brings us sadness now, will bring us comfort, as the many, many memories that we have of Doug will survive.  We come into this world with nothing, and leave with nothing – all that marks our place is what we gave of ourselves in life. In that respect, Doug has left his legacy. His gifts of love, laughter, friendship, guidance and counsel  will endure and he will live on in all of our memories.  C.S. Lewis wrote on grief that “the pain that we feel now is part of the joy that we felt then – that’s the deal”.  The immense sense of loss that we feel is a measure of what Doug meant to us, and how special his gifts to life were.

Farewell my friend.  Thanks for sharing the ride with us all.  Love never dies, and all that you gave of yourself will live on – in each of us who knew you.

To Faye, Daniel and Sarah, I offer my most heartfelt condolences.

For my sister Faye and Sarah, Daniel, Natalie and Charlotte. Doug will be missed by many, he was such a great part of our lives for 35 years. When we met in Edmonton, that long time ago. We developed a friendship back then, and quickly it turned into family. Many things have changed since then, but our love for you and Doug never did. He will never be forgotten, and will always be missed especially around the BBQ, I will never have a perfect steak again. I will always be here for all of you, and know too well what you are going through. He is with Benny now looking after all of us. Love to you all.xoxo

I will never forget the time when Doug ran out of the Gananoque Inn to catch me and Lory driving by on our bikes. We then joined you and Doug for drinks. This is one of the many good times that I remember Doug. It seems we were always drinking or eating when we got together.

Travel safe and strong Faye. Doug will always be by your side.

I met Doug several years ago through work and we immediately hit it off. At my age one makes a lot of acquaintances but very few real friends. Doug was a real friend and I feel lucky to have known him.
When I needed advice he was there and I like to think that on occasion I was able to return the favor.

What I will remember most about him though was how much he loved his family. Whenever we got together the first thing to come out was his pad or I Phone to show me the latest pictures of the world’s most adorable grandchildren!

    I will miss him.

He always seem to treat you like his bride.  Not only loving you but staying in love with you.  I am grateful to have all of my memories and wish to thank him for all the laughter.  Hugs to you all at this sad time. xoxox Shelley

I met Dougie when he came into this world. He was always a great & inquisitive kid.
I remember one specific incident, when he was about 2. I was in the kitchen of my parents apartment when I heard a sound in the back stair. I opened the door to find Dougie on all fours at our landing. He said ” I ope’d the door.” Great memories.
