Drew Alexander Worden

March 19, 1972 - July 16, 2020

Funeral Details: Due to Covid 19, A Celebration of Life will be announced for a later date.

Worden, Drew Alexander:  On Thursday, July 16, 2020 in the seconds between 1:44 and 1:45p.m. Drew Alexander Worden took his last breath. Surrounded by family at the Margaret Bahen Hospice, he died of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) which he had been fighting bravely for five and a half years.

Born March 19, 1972 in Scarborough, Ontario to Donna (Judge) Worden and Glenn Worden he had a wonderful childhood with his parents, his two younger brothers Spencer and Grant, whom he loved very much and his extended family (Judges - Uncle Bob, John, Dan, grandparents Myrtle and Bert and cousins Julia and Andrew and the Wordens,  grandparents Rita and Art and Auntie Jane).

Drew started school at Elizabeth Simcoe in Guildwood Village, where he met his future wife Jenn and his lifelong friend Steve Wasilishin. For middle school Drew moved to Churchill Heights for the gifted program and then on to high school at Woburn CI. He had fond memories of drinking in the photography darkroom with friends like Chris Young, Carlo Allegri and Jamie O’Donnell while developing photos for the yearbook. He was also part of many clubs and teams where he made many great friends like Matt, Scott, Brian and the rest of the gang. He was both academically gifted and socially gifted – a very rare combination.

Drew attended the University of Western Ontario and loved every minute of it, especially all of the incredibly fun times with his roommate from New York, Danny Saraf. After Western, Drew earned a marketing diploma from Centennial College where Dave Moss became a fast friend. They had memorable adventures together that always brought a smile to Drew’s face when he recounted the stories.

Drew spent many years working in the family business. In 2010, as that business closed, Drew took the very brave step of starting his own company. Worden Displays reached its ten-year milestone in April 2020. Over the ten years he had many professional successes, which included earning a spot, on Profit Magazines Fast Growing Companies list three years in a row. He was also a founding member of one of CAFE’s best functioning PAG (business advisory) groups that has continued to thrive for twenty years. As a result of that he made a number of wonderful friends like Jordan, Stephen and Billx2 and others who provided both friendship and business council.

While he was never trying to build a legacy with Worden Displays, he really did. He ran an incredibly successful business that was profitable, but also inclusive, supportive and welcoming, all the while providing top shelf levels of customer service. Many people commented on how nice the “Worden Boys” were to work with and for; which came from Drew’s lead in ensuring his people, his customers and his suppliers were treated well.

However, in Drew’s opinion, his true legacy is his family. Drew and his wife Jennifer grew up in Guildwood together as friends, classmates (at Simcoe) and coworkers (they were both lifeguards for the City of Scarborough). Once Drew returned from Western and Jenn from Queens that’s when it all started. They began dating in February 1996 and never looked back. They married in October 2001. Drew and Jenn worked hard to build a family life and home filled with love, joy, happiness (and lots of music). In 2004 Elizabeth (Libby) was born and three years later Alicia (Ali) was born, both girls ensuring that the home WAS filled with laughter, love and joy. This was Drew’s true legacy and passion. He loved his ladies with every fibre of his being. He was so proud of his daughters.

Drew had many great adventures and a lot of fun over the years. Some of his best memories included hunting, skiing (and apres skiing) at Mansfield with Jenn, the girls, Pete and the Mansfield crew, night missions with his very best friends Brad and the Preston Lake Navy Seals, and travelling with Jenn, the girls, the Whitticks, Wards, Elliotts and Jarretts.

Charles Darwin said “A man’s friendships are one of the best measures of his worth”. If this is truly the case, Drew was one of the wealthiest men in the world.

Thank you to Southlake Hospital, Dr. Baguio, Dr. Cynthia Luk, Dr. John Preiner.  Sunnybrook Hospital, Nesan Bandali, Dr. Sten Myrehaug, Dr. Georg Bjarnason as well as Robert Lees, Alex, Lawal, Liza, Shefali, Sandra Chadsey, Linda, Dr.Yves Petcho and Dr. Pete Moore for all of your incredible support, professional talents and genuine care for Drew. Each of you had a positive impact on his life and your combined efforts gave us more time together as a family for which we are forever grateful.

A special thank you to Anke and the team at Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket for a compassion I didn’t even know was possible. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Drew’s name – the support they were able to provide to us all in Drew’s final days was invaluable and we would like to pay it forward to others.  https://www.myhospice.ca/support-my-hospice/

Due to COVID19 a Celebration of Life will be held when it’s safe, Hoping for October.

Night, night Drew. Sleep tight. Don’t let the…. That’s right!

Heartbroken for you Jenn and your beautiful girls and also your extended families. When you guys moved in next door to us and we met Drew outside installing his TV satellite, we instantly fell in love with him. And then we met you and the deal was sealed. He liked TV, booze, food and was funny as fuck! It was like we’d won the neighbour lottery. We still talk and laugh about him dumping a bucket of water on Sean’s head when Sean and Michael wouldn’t stop squinting your guests with their tiny water pistols at Libby’s 1st birthday. And god bless him for asking our permission to do it. He was truly a one in a million. Our whole family is so saddened by his passing and I know we didn’t see you guys much since you “upgraded” to Preston lake and then Aurora but we knew he was there. Being a Hindu (I’ll explain religion to you one day over a bottle of Kim Crawford) we are told that beautiful great humans like Drew are gods and given to us for as long as god decides. And then he can ask for them as he has a bigger plan for them. I still can’t wrap my brain around it but maybe you and I and the LCBO can try. He was a truly a beautiful great one and he will be missed by the Ryans a lot! Rest In Peace friend.

I remember going camping with him and all the other parents and the neighborhood kids when I was little. He always had a smile on his face and made everyone’s day. Or the potlucks, Canada day, bike rides in the loop, babysitting his kids Libby and Ali. I might not have not keep in contact with him for the past few years. But he will always be such a big part of my childhood and made me who I am today. My greatest condolences to all of you.

Drew was one of my favourites! I will miss him dearly! Drew, you were happy, funny, smart, kind, honest and very willing to do whatever it takes to live as long as you could. In the past 6 years I have enjoyed every moment spent talking and laughing about health, life, work, family, pain, fears and everything in between. Thank you Drew for being apart of my world, I am so much better off because of knowing you. Rest well my friend, rest well! xoxo

I’m so sorry to hear of Drew’s death – he was way too young, and had so much more to contribute to this world. From his obituary, it’s so clear how much he was loved and how much love he had for his family and friends. I missed the Worden’s when they moved away from Preston Lake, but he’ll always be remembered – for his big smile, for his help when anything was needed, and for his service to the community. Condolences to Jenn, Libby, Ali and the rest of Drew’s family and friends.

So sorry to hear about Drew. He was a classmate at Churchill Heights and we were in the same cabin at Art Camp together one year. While our paths diverged in High School, we reconnected in a small way via Facebook in recent years. My memories of Drew are that of a genuinely kind-hearted and positive human being. Every good word I have read here about Drew is true for me also. I experienced firsthand his quick smile, his generous and patient help, his kind nature, his funny side. Here is what I wrote to him on Father’s Day: “I want to tell you that I know from personal experience that it takes an exceptional man to be a father to girls. You are that. Libby and Ali are growing up strong and smart, with courage, and the support to tackle whatever they want to do.”

What a lucky grandmother I am to know that I never need to worry about my granddaughters because they have the best parents they could possibly have. Jenn here and Drew now in their hearts.

What a lucky mother-in-law I have been to have a son-in-law who has been so easy to love. Drew will always keep that place in my heart that he began to build for himself starting the day we met. There are no words to say how much he will be missed.

The world is a better place for Drew having been in it.

Jenn, I am in awe of your grace, compassion and steadfastness. My heart is with you, Ali and Libby – always.

Love you all 4, xoxo m

Drew has been my wingman for a long time and I mean this literally. Early on in our friendship when we were eating chicken wings we discovered he liked the flats and I liked the drumsticks. It was then that I realized this had the potential to be a meaningful friendship.
As it turns out, that day I was eating wings with a guy that would become my best friend for the next 15 years.
Drew had some amazing traits, he was generous, kind and possessed a positive attitude that was virtually unbreakable.
That being said, I think I will remember most how lucky Drew was. I mean this guy won sports pools, golf contests and seemed to think casinos were a place where you walk in and they just give you a bunch of money. I was in a constant state of amazement and envy.
Although he did recognize this unusual good fortune there is no doubt he felt most lucky to have Jenn, Ali and Libby in his life. He would often tell me about their latest adventures, of which there were many, with such joy and pride. Nothing meant more to him than family.
I have no doubt the values and love both Drew and Jenn have given the girls will guide them throughout their lives.
Buddy, you did a great job.

Growing up, I had the honour of calling Drew my best friend. We went to Elizabeth Simcoe together with Jenn and our houses were separated by only a few backyards. The Worden family always welcomed me in their home and there was never a dull moment when the three brothers were together. The genuine warmth and love that your family gives to each other and to those people lucky enough to be in your life is what makes you all so special.
Drew made us feel special with his generosity of spirit and kindness. It is easy to describe how he made you feel because he gave everyone his affectionate, warm nature. His tenderness and compassion for for his girls and his wife makes everyone want to be a better parent and more like him.
I think that is why we are all having trouble coping with his leaving us because he touched everyone he met with his humanity, his ready smile and awesome chuckle….. we will miss you.

We have so many memories of our time at Preston Lake, so many that include all of you. Meeting an entire family of such giving, loving individuals is not only a tribute to you as parents, but something for us to cherish always. Drew, with his unfailing sense of humour, his kindness, and his silent determination to be there for his girls was a source of admiration for all of us. We will always treasure Canada Days, the annual Chille Cookoff, our trip to New York, the Preston Lake Navy Seals weekly missions (To Overserve and Protect), and somehow being present in your home watching a program with Drew where someone ate a 72-ounce hamburger. Most importantly, we so appreciate the time spent with you both and your girls. Drew will always be in our hearts.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I had no idea what he was going through. My thoughts are with you Jennifer (especially considering this socially distant time). Hugs to all your family. I still remember working with Drew in the grade 3 program at West Hill. What a great laugh.

    Dearest Jenn, Libby and Ali,

You are such a beautiful family-strong, compassionate, inclusive, generous, considerate, loving, supportive and fiercely loyal. Drew lived those ideals every day and felt the support of his family to the very end. I watched with such admiration knowing he never felt alone. He fought a valiant fight which ended surrounded by his family at his side. His love will live in your hearts forever.

We will miss Drew so much-his smile, laughter, wit, advice, TV show suggestions (always better than rotten tomatoes!), winning Ribfest recipes, fellow Morrissey and BNL lover and concert goer, dad to daughters club member, bonfire builder extraordinaire and my horror movie buddy.

The many lives that your family has touched over the years are all here now to support you beautiful ladies in the future. We love you so much!

I had Drew as a client for a few years and he’s someone I appreciated for his kindness and openness.
He will be one of the clients with whom I enjoyed working and with whom I could have had a friendship.

I enclose this photo that we took during one of our presentations.

    My sincere condolences

Dear Jenn, Libby, Ali and to your extended families,

Sending you our heartfelt sympathies and love as you celebrate Drew’s life and legacy. We are grateful to have had Drew touch our lives and enjoy his friendship, kindness and generosity. He was so proud of Libby and Ali as stood on the sidelines of the soccer pitch and while there was readily willing to share a kind word or a good laugh. We also had the good fortune to work with Drew professionally and his support for our new company was exceptional. A true professional with his customer’s needs top of mind. We wish you all strength and courage during this difficult time. Caroline, Mark, Megan and Rachel Wiley

Dear Jenn, Libby, Ali and family
Please accept our sincere condolences. Drew was always one of the guys that we could rely on at WHPS events. He was a great member of the community with his warm, welcoming smile and keen sense of humour. It wasn’t hard to notice his love for his family.
It’s not the number of years in your life, it’s the life in your years. And it sounds as though Drew packed in a lot of life in his years.

Jenn, Libby, Ali and the whole Worden family,

The Banbury Carters are so saddened to lose Drew and send our deepest sympathies. It was a short stint we got to have as neighbours but Drew’s strength as a fighter and his family’s reslilience were both clear. His achievements are truly in rarified air, raising a successful business alongside a stellar family and dedicating himself to both. We wish we knew him better and longer.

Worden gals, we are here for any and all your neighbour needs, thanks for coming to Banbury Ct.

    Rest well, Drew.

All the amazing and kind words in the world, will not replace the loss of an amazing son, husband and father. Taken away before his time, Drew was able to leave a legacy that most can’t even get close to in a hundred years – brilliant, beautiful, clever, strong and purely amazing daughters. Fantastic joy to work with for a coach, they win you over by dedication and determination, always sharp, never disrespectful, example and support for everyone around them.

Stay together and be strong. Just remember, that if things get hard, you’re never alone. You’ll always have friends and community to lean on.

    My deepest condolences,
    Coach Max

Was deeply saddened to hear of Drew’s passing. We had so many good times together at Churchill, Wobourn and into the university years. Drew was always open and kind, quick with a smile and a joke. He was such a good natured friend. Drew, a wonderfully kind soul, you will be missed!

I am so gutted to hear this news. Ive been staring at this screen for a week not knowing what to write or say. It all seems so useless. Drew was always a Prince among men, funny, smart, loving and always so much fun to be around. I just can’t imagine what Jenn and and his girls Libby and Ali must be feeling with his loss. If its tough for me it must be devastating for you guys that lived with him. Every part of our aching hearts need you more, here than the angels do. I can only hope my Mom was waiting for him and gave him a big hug when got wherever he ended up. All my love and support. RIP Drew.

    Jenn, Libby, Ali & family,
Our most heartfelt condolences. We are so sorry to hear of Drew’s passing. Drew was one of the first neighbours we met at Preston Lake in 2005 and are forever blessed and grateful for his friendship. With every interaction we were guaranteed a beautiful, authentic smile and a dose of his contagious laughter. Drew was as genuine as they come. His warmth, kindness, humour, generosity and his passion for life, family and community enriched everyone who knew him.
And all the wonderful memories! A host of so many awesome parties; his ingenuity to modify his trailer to give the neighbourhood kids a wagon ride on Halloween; and who can forget the phony real estate sign he put on the Boudreau’s lawn on April Fool’s. We will forever cherish the fond memories and example by which Drew lived. May the love of your family and friends – and knowing that Drew is with you in your hearts always – comfort you and give you strength.
Love of love – Nancy, Paul, Matt, Alessia and Markus

Drew always had such a pleasant and delightful presence at WHPS events – the Turkey luncheon , etc.
We sure miss him, and you ladies, at Mansfield. Seeing your ski lift chair is always heartwarming . We will always remember a big smile in Drew’s face when he was enjoying the winter weekends with his special ladies at the”Field”. He was a great husband and a father.

    My Dear Worden Boys,

I am so bummed that you guys lost your fearless leader.

Drew, you were such a strong, honest and loyal person. I always look forward to visits at the shop because I was always met with your warm smile and contagious laugh. I feel lucky to have known you because of all the positive influences you have had across the industry. I miss you already Drew. My condolences to your beautiful family. You always had a sparkle in your eye when you spoke of your girls (which was often).

Spencer and Grant, Because of your kick ass brother I still get to hang out with you. You guys are pretty awesome guys and a reflection of all the best parts of your brother. I am keeping you guys in my heart.

Dear Jenn and family, I have never read such a wonderful life tribute! I was one of Drew’s nurses when he was an inpatient. I saw such a kind fun hearted person despite his diagnosis; he laughed A LOT, through pain and always was so appreciative to the nursing staff. You are both such lovely people and I will never forget your family. I understand now how it was so easy to feel if we would have met in difference circumstances we would have been friends. What a wonderful legacy Drew leaves behind. I think we would agree the best of life is about the relationships we have. Well done Drew! Sending you a big hug Jenn! Please accept my condolences.

Dear Jenn and the entire Worden family. The Mythics Emergent Group of companies in Virginia sends our deepest condolences. Drew was such a great man and partner to work with supporting us at all our events. He was kind, creative, supportive and so great to spend time with on the road (often in San Francisco). I am so shocked to hear that Drew is no longer with us physically. I had the pleasure of working with the Worden’s in the ’90’s, as Drew was honing his skills in the family business. He was always a level-headed and truly a joyful human being. My deepest sympathy goes to the entire Worden clan and especially to Jenn, Spencer and Grant, who I witnessed in their earlier years of their careers.

I worked with Drew providing IT Services to Worden-Watson and found Drew to be such a kind, patient, and thoughtful person. I considered Drew a friend. I attached an old picture I had of us playing Paintball in 1998. Life got in the way and we lost touch over the years but I always smile when I think of him. Reading the news this morning is heartbreaking, and I wish the family lots of Love.
