Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

With great sadness we announce the death of Egon Lassen Keller on March 12th, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe where he just celebrated his 89th birthday.

Egon is survived by his 34-year life companion, Mireille Rominger and family, Eric Rominger (Maureen), Julia Rominger (Sam), Mandy Rominger (Rob) and Jean Miller.

Egon was born in Denmark where he trained as a pastry chef.  He loved to travel and practised his trade in many countries over Scandinavia, South Africa before settling in Canada in 1964.

Egon was well known in the industry.  For some 20 years, he served as President of the Pastry Chefs Guild of Ontario which later became the Canadian Pastry Chefs Guild.  For the last 10 years of his career, he worked as a sales representative for La Rocca.

Upon retirement, Egon moved from Richmond Hill to Barrie where he joined the Barrie Farmers’ Market.  Egon’s Chocolate stand was well known by the market patrons.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Royal Victoria Hospital and Hospice Simcoe for their outstanding and compassionate care he received the past 3 months.  It is greatly appreciated.

We were delighted to get to know “Mr. Egon” through his wonderful chocolate at the market. Every Saturday evening we enjoyed his incredible chocolate florentines. He did indeed make our world a sweeter place. Peace be with all of you who feel this loss so greatly.

Such sad news to hear. For years my co-worker and I would have tea at McLaren Art Centre and it was there we met Egon. Always happy. Always smiling. A lovely, gentle man. On winter Saturdays my husband and I would often come into town to attend the Farmer’s Market and seek out Egon’s chocolates. I am so sorry for your loss.

    Dear Mireille,
with sadness we hear about the passing of your longtime partner in life, Egon. Please accept our deep sympathy, Egon was a great friend to everybody who new him, esspecially his colleagues in the Pastry Chefs Guild and Industry.
We remember him for his quite and humorous way, making everybody comfortable. Egon brought a “lightness” into the conversation, even when we sometimes didn`t understand him, because of his “accent”.

We remember Egon and you dear Mireille, as great friends during our mutual Pastry Chefs Guild times.

May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ bless and protect you Mireille and your famil on all your ways.

Wolf and Monika, vom from Berlin

What a sad loss for all of us. Egon helped me so much during my career especially when I came to Canada 30 years ago. His Professionalism was second to none. Mireille, may god bless you and your family for your next chapter in your life.

Sending my heartfelt condolences. Egon was such an amazing person and will truly be missed.

I’m thankful for the friendship he had with my husband Chris and I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know Egon over the years. Great conversations and laughs. Our family always anticipated the delicious chocolate goodies we purchased from him at the Farmers Market.

Mireille, my thoughts are prayers are with you and your family.
