Emma Niewisiewicz

October 1, 1931 - August 6, 2019

Funeral Details: Memorial Service at Martingrove United Church, 75 Pergola Rd, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9W 5K4, on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at 11:00 am.

Emma Niewisiewicz (nee Neumann), a resident at Lakeside Retirement Home in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, passed away at age 87 on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.

Born in 1931 in Lithuania, her family moved to Germany during World War II.  Emma met her husband, John, at a dance after the war.  She came to Canada in 1951 as a new bride.  She spent most of her life in Toronto, later worked at Canada Packers, now known as Maple Leaf Foods, until she retired.

Emma was a great cook, enjoyed socializing, and was happy to go on little weekend trips to New York and dance the night away with her husband and their dear friends.  Always ready with a smile, she was the type of person who looked on the positive side of life.

A woman of considerable gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting talents, she also always found time to devote to family, both abroad and at home.  She was known as Oma to her twin granddaughters, and thoroughly enjoyed her great granddaughter.

Emma was the last surviving sibling of 7 other predeceased brothers and sisters.  She has extended family in Germany.

In Ontario, she is survived by her loving family:  daughter Monika Shepherdson (Daniel), daughter Christina Hryhoruk,  granddaughter Crystal Stephens (Sheldon), granddaughter Bonnie Dickson and great granddaughter Grace Stephens.

As per her wishes, Emma has been cremated, and a Memorial to celebrate her life is planned at the church where she was an elder for 20 years.  This will take place at Martingrove United Church, 75 Pergola Rd, Etobicoke  ON  M9W 5K4, on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at 11:00 am.

If you wish, donations would be appreciated to her church, the Canadian Cancer Society, or Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

Thank you so much, Kathe, Carol, Leo and Ryan Mom always said how Kathe was more of a sister to her than a sister-in-law and I know Kathe always said and felt the same way. We all know your prayers are with us.
