Fay Turano, in her 99th year passed away peacefully surrounded with love and care at Woods Park in Barrie on Jan. 1st 2015. She spent the last seven and a half years of her life living in Barrie so she could live closer to her grandchildren as she aged. Her mother, Elizabeth Merrilees from England married her father Michael Kyrzakos from Greece in North Bay Ontario in the year 1915, later settling in the small town of Sudbury. Fay was the oldest of five siblings. Fay first met her husband Mike Turano where he started out managing the produce department for the Loblaws Co. which is where he swept her off her feet. They were married Sept. 5, 1935 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Toronto and later the same day enjoyed a 2nd nuptial ceremony in St. George's Greek Orthodox Church. They settled in Sudbury, raised a daughter Joy Zuliani (Renzo)-(John Luptak-pre-deceased). After Fay and Mike retired from the family owned Northern Music business they enjoyed many winters at their 2nd home in Florida. Fay had three granddaughters Melanie Cesaroni (Stephen), Cindy Hoyda (Joe), Casey Catton (Doug pre-deceased) and six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Stephanie (Manny), Jordan, Alexandra, Leah and Jake plus one great-great-granddaughter Savannah.
Fay's consistent love and positivity, strength, good will and kindness are just a few of the things that will be greatly missed, not to mention that little woman with her yarn and crochet hook making lap blankets for everyone in the nursing home.
Service will be held on January 25th at 1pm at Woods Park Care Centre, 110 Lillian Cr., Barrie, with a burial to follow in the spring in Sudbury.
Donations may be made to the Barrie SPCA www.barrie.ontariospca.ca in her memory.
