Frances Alix Johnson

July 30, 1930 - July 9, 2019

Funeral Details: Celebration of Life at a later time

Blessed with a friendly, positive disposition, Alix was born in Belleville in 1930 to Mary and Jerry McWain. Her sister Rosemary was born two years later, and they remained the best of friends right until Alix’s passing.

In 1950, a handsome redhead from Kingston - Elmer Maurice Johnson - swept her off her feet; they married in October 1951 and moved to Toronto. They had daughters Catherine (David), Janet (Lori), Heather (Ken), Kim (Gord) - and a son, Stephen (Katherine). After starting their family, Alix and Elmer moved to the new community of Don Mills, an eastern suburb of Toronto, where all of their children grew up. Alix later took enthusiastically to being a Grandma, doting on Brianna, Mackenzie, Teegan and Camryn; she had a special relationship with each of them.

In 1988, Alix and Elmer built “River Bend”, their dream home on the Black River near Washago, and retired to country living. They found their bliss, and enjoyed many afternoons entertaining on their deck and watching the beautiful Black River. They made many friends in their neighbourhood, including Basil & Diane, Daphne & Kingsley, Inge, Andy, Sandra, Tom & Diane and Cheryl & Dave. They also became “surrogate grandparents” to Kyle and Meco who lived next door. Mom rarely met a person she didn’t enjoy spending time with.

When Elmer died in 2011, Mom was fortunate enough to be able to stay in their dream home up until four days before her death. Our family owes a huge debt of gratitude to Inge, Sandra, Andrea, Dianne, and Andy for making sure she stayed safe and happy in her home for 8-1/2 years. She was able to watch her beloved birds at their feeder and visit with her peanut-loving chipmunks daily. She was one very lucky lady!
She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 9th, and she will be missed by absolutely everyone who knew her.  A memorial  service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario.
