Francis Dennis “Denny” Engel

August 10, 1949 - May 6, 2019

Funeral Details: Sunday, May 26th at 3:00 p.m. Stroud Curling Club, 7883 Yonge St., Innisfil

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denny Engel (a.k.a. Francis Dennis Engel) on May 6th, 2019. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, sister and many other relatives and great friends (who were more like family).

Denny, born on August 10th, 1949, lived a great and fulfilling life.  As an Elevator Mechanic for many years, he was able to retire at the young age of 55.  A man dedicated to his community, he was proud and honoured to serve as a Captain for the Volunteer Firefighters for 20+ years with the Innisfil Fire Department.

Denny had a zest for life and enjoyed his days creating and embracing great memories with his family and friends. As an avid fisherman, hunter, classic car enthusiast, antique collector, boater and curler, there was never a dull moment.  In his down time, he could be found tinkering in his garage with an open door, ready to enjoy a cold beer with those that stopped to visit.

Denny was so fortunate to be blessed with the gift of good family and friends over his lifetime. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour, twinkling blue eyes, his kind and thoughtful manners and gestures, his sometimes stubborn nature (lol) and his beautiful infectious smile.

Please join us in a casual celebration and sharing of memories on May 26th, 2019 @ 3:00pm at the Stroud Curling Club.

I am still in shock. So many great memories stretching back to grade 7, through chasing girls together, working at the family garage in Thornhill, travelling in Europe, weekends and holidays together at the cottage. always ready to lend a hand. There is a hole in my heart, he will be missed.

Many great times in Europe, the cottage, escapades with the Willowdale Weekend Warriors. My wish is that Denny has found a place with hot cars, hot women and cold beer. Rest well my friend.

From the days we went to Newtonbrook High School together till the days we both moved up to Innisfil, Denny was always a good friend who was willing to share a laugh, a beer and several good jokes. I can remember helping Denny split wood for his wood stove while playing his favourite Cat Stevens Album. We shared many laughs watching Denny water ski or go tubing and Denny always wanted to make the biggest splash falling off the skis or out of the tube. We will miss him and his laugh. Our condolences to the family.

It’s funny, even though it’s been almost 20 years since last I saw him, I still find it weird referring to him as anything but Uncle Denny. I guess when we’re young, the memories of family just stick. He took me for my first snowmobile ride, my first ice fishing experience, my first ride in a classic muscle car! On his 40th birthday I got to see a grown man in a diaper for the first time! Reading the above eulogy makes me happy to know that Uncle Denny never changed after all these years.
I’m sad that he’s gone, but I’m glad that every memory I have of him makes me smile.

Memories of Denny go all the way back to high school. I am shocked and saddened at his passing. My deepest condolences. Denny was always quick with a laugh and that cheeky twinkle in his eye; a great polka dancer; and that silly joke about the elevator business having “its ups and downs”. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

I was saddened to hear of Denny’s passing. He was a great person, always happy, enthusiastic, full of life. You could not see him in a year, and then when you met it was as if you had just seen him yesterday, no awkwardness or silent moments! He was one of those guys that was the life of the party, always ready to start something, with that twinkle in his eye that told you something was about to happen!
He was a wonderful, caring person, who will be missed by all of his many friends. He is in Heaven now, telling jokes and having a beer with all of his buddies that have gone before, waiting for us to come and join him.
    Rest in peace my friend.

Denny was a great friend, always had a smile on his face, a good heart, and he’ll be missed by so many family members and friends. I hope that he had a good celebration of his life.
