It is with sadness that the family of Gareth Ian Thomas announces his passing. Gareth was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Thomas (nee Moss) and proud, loving father of daughter, Jennifer.
Gareth was an avid photographer who enjoyed and appreciated the beauty of the world around him. Jennifer and her equestrian events; flowers; wildlife; friends and family were favourite subjects for his photographs.
Gareth was proud of his Welsh Heritage, having moved to Canada during his childhood. His most recent travel took him home to Maesteg, Wales, where he spent time with family members. He enjoyed travelling and exploring different countries.
Gareth’s career was in education, retiring from the Simcoe County Board of Education as a Superintendent of Education. He was a leader focused on the well being and active learning of all students and educators.
Donations in Gareth’s memory may be made to The War Amps of Canada or to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

I have very fond remembrances of Gareth. My first impressions, if immediate, are usually right. He had a quite an art of making me (and am sure others) feel at ease while helping to resolve a difficult situation. His pleasantness and eye attention made one feel so. To me, he always appeared as “ Cool Hand Luke”.
The last time we met, I well remember our unexpected surprise of seeing you both turn around in front of Glenna and I at the Andre Rieu concert in Toronto. That seems ions ago as I retired in my 58th year and am now in my 83rd.
