Garry Ayres left us, surrounded by his loved ones, on April 27th after a courageous battle with ALS.  Garry was born on December 9, 1945, to George and Pearl Ayres of Innisfil, Ontario.

On October 30, 1971, Garry married Joann Versage and they had two sons, Christopher, and Kevin.  Christopher and Kim (Handley) gave him two grandchildren, Danica and Mason.  Kevin and Laura (Alford) a grandson, Jonathan.  His family was the sunshine of his life.

For over 45 years, Garry had his business in Sandy Cove Acres where he will be remembered for his hard work and good humour.  He made many long time friends at his favourite pastime, his involvement with Innisfil Minor Hockey, whether on the bench or in the spectator stands.

Garry will be lovingly remembered by Mary Krul, Evelyn Phillips, Vern and Rita Ayres, Wayne Ayres, Gord and Linda Ayres, Shirley Steeves, Kay Ayres, Clara Ayres, Sandra Benson, DiAnn and Ed Hughes, Mike and Annelie Brown and many well loved nieces, nephews and close friends.  He is predeceased by George and Pearl Ayres, Mervyn Ayres, Dorothy and Bill Marshall Young, Gerry Krul, Clayton Ayres, Peggy Ayres, Lorne Phillips, Wayne Steeves, Joseph and Mildred Versage, Jim Benson, and Joseph Versage Jr.

Special thanks for the overwhelming support our family received from our friends and family members, too many to mention.  We would also like to send a heartfelt thank you to Sarah, Ingrid, Tracy, Edith, Maria, Sam, and the compassionate staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe.

Friends and family are welcome to join us at Innisbrook Golf Course for a celebration of Garry’s life on Sunday, May 7 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We’ll share stories and happy memories of times spent together at 2 o’clock.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome at this year’s Walk to End ALS on June 10.
