George Arthur Duck

January 7, 1940 - March 20, 2019

Funeral Details: Saturday, March 23, 2019 St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church

On Wednesday, March 20th 2019 in Barrie, Ontario, George Arthur ‘Art’ Duck, loving husband and father of six children, passed away at age 79.

Art was born in Toronto to Walter and Ella (Thomson) Duck, the fourth of six children: Jean and Bert (deceased), Kay, Frank and Betty.  He was a man of many talents, working on the family farm before learning the sheet metal trade that led to his becoming a high school industrial shop teacher.   This was followed by his true calling as a self-emis Hployed contractor, a passion from which he never planned to retire.

In 1961 he married Ann McCullough, and together they raised two daughters, Heather and Louise, and a son Richard.  In 1988 he married Georgina DeCarlo and became a second father to Kelly and Geoff.  Art married Ruth Templeton in 2004 and became father to Alexandra.  He was a proud G Pa to Kelsey, Riley, Maggie, Braden and Grampa Duck to Grace, Brooke and Erin and loving GG Pa of Brody.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 7-9 pm followed by the Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11 a.m., both at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 47 Owen Street Barrie, Ontario.  Those able to attend are encouraged to wear their western or brightest attire in honour of Art.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrews.

Our ‘darling Duckie’ has flown away.

We are saddened by Art’s passing. Art contracted a washroom renovation just this past summer. Art was on the job everyday overseeing everything. Art was the most honest contractor we have ever worked with. He ensured the work was completed to our satisfaction. We enjoyed many hours of conversation and laughs with Art. He openly spoke of his family and his love of golf. We will miss him and we want to share our condolences with Ruth and the entire family.

Art was a gentle man, loved his family and was a pillar at St. Andrew’s. He will be sadly missed by the “balcony crew” of which he and Ruth were a key part. RIP my friend. God bless.
