With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of George Emerson Coulson at the age of 88. A devoted husband, father, huppa, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, George lived a life rich in love, laughter, and service to others.

Born in Pardee Township in the Thunder Bay area, George was one of eight siblings and grew up surrounded by family, music, and the great outdoors. His early years were filled with shinny on homemade rinks, strumming his Gibson J45, and building the strong sense of community that would define his life.

George was a man who never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t spoken to yet. His warmth, humour, and gift of conversation made everyone feel welcome. He was a loyal and loving husband to Rosemary, a proud father to Glenn (Natka) and Diana (Matthew), and a cherished grandfather to Emma, Lauren, Emerson, and Henry. He was also a beloved brother, uncle, and second father to many, including Heather and Jenny, and a constant companion to his little dog, Lady, who never left his side.

Throughout his career with the County of Simcoe, George wore many hats and was especially dedicated to environmental conservation. He contributed meaningfully to efforts that protected local forests and green spaces—an interest that extended into his own backyard, which he transformed into a miniature woodland of potted maples, oaks, and pines. Though he made his home in Simcoe County, his heart remained in Thunder Bay, where he often returned to share stories of his youth and the land that shaped him.

A pillar in his community, George was involved in seniors’ organizations, the International Plowing Match, the Papal visit, and countless local events. He was also a fixture at Fil’s Café, where his coffee and toast were always waiting, along with a good-natured exchange of wit.

George’s legacy is one of love—love for his family, his community, and the many lives he touched. He leaves behind a world that was better simply because he was in it.
