There is so much to say about my friend. And none of it bad. There are so many memories that keep rolling through my mind. I remember one beautiful summer night driving from Toronto to Queensville in George’s 1960 Pontiac convertible. The country air seemed different to this city slicker. Ruth: I am sure you remember that. And do you remember the ‘sexy stoplight’ that George showed us in Newmarket?

George introduced me to Pinecrest Speedway and to stock car racing. He arranged for me to work in the pits along side him and a lot of others who knew what they were doing. I did not belong in that crowd, but George knew I would be thrilled to be there. He was my friend.

I remember a Sunday in Sutton when George was driving #49 at the track. This was a sign of the respect he had earned – this was an opportunity he had earned from the car’s owner/driver at Pinecrest. Because George was his friend.

I remember an evening when George picked me up at work to go back to our place on Victoria Park to celebrate my first born’s birth. In the opinion of one of Toronto’s finest, he ran a light at Rosedale Valley Road and Bayview. George made the cut, but that officer was not my friend.

I remember George driving me around Brampton on a Saturday in November, 1970. He kept making up reasons to stop at different places. When he finally relented and we went to my place, all of our friends were there to surprise me with a birthday party. Not a special thing, but I remember because George was my friend.

When I was transferred to Sudbury, rumours somehow made their way to Toronto that we were in need. These were not well founded, but they were of great concern to my friend George. He showed up unexpectedly pulling a trailer of things he thought we might need.

So, Ruth and the girls: my heart goes out to you, but I want you to be reminded that George touched the lives of so many of us. I don’t remember him ever saying anything bad about anyone. He saw the best in all of us, and was a friend to so many. He made a positive difference every day. Be proud of that, and recall those little moments when he made a difference in your day. That recollection will make a difference today.

Ruth and girls: I have many memories of George. When we were young we spent a lot of time together as 2 couples dating, going to the Drive -In
and many road trips. After we both got married and started our families we still hung out, taking our babies to the race track.
At one point we lived 2 building away in Scarbrough , Ontario. We would play cards, had meals together. I watched you Chris
and you Sherri while mom went to work. One memory is one time George and Joe went to get pizza late one night after a few
pints, they seemed to take forever when they got back they had a pizza so full of ingredients we had to eat it with a spoon. I have
a lot more to share but I will do that privately when we are able to get together. Just remember He loved all of you.
Rest in Peace George. Love and prayers to you Ruth ,girls and grandkids.
    Irene
