Gerald Levert, 89, passed away January 12, 2026, in Newmarket, Ontario.
Gerry was born October 25, 1936, to Reta and Alfred Levert, in Sudbury, Ontario. He is survived by his sister, nieces, nephew, and children.
Gerry worked as a Catholic school principal for many years and later became a school administrator. For 26 years he operated a bingo, which raised money for the Scarborough Solars Volleyball Club.
Gerry spent his free time golfing, fishing, reading, listening to music, playing bridge, and solving cryptic puzzles. He had a passion for cars, and through the years he owned several BMW’s and an Alfa Romeo. He also enjoyed horse races, boating and shared many years with dog companions.
Special thanks to Kingsway Place Retirement Home in Aurora for taking such good care of Gerry these past few years. Thank you also to the CV ICU staff at Southlake Hospital, Newmarket.
Gerry will be missed by many. He had a zest for life, and his presence will continue in our hearts and memories.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
We will miss our dad. (Karen and Mark Levert)

Posted on: Friday, January 16, 2026Gerry was my Principal as a young student at St. Richard’s. He led the largest MSSB school in the Board at the time (portables and about 1200 kids). I was one of his track ‘stars’ and helped with the 3 consecutive City Track Winners the school won. I’ve good memories of him as the P. I went on to become a P myself with the TCDSB. (I was also at high school at Cardinal Newman with you Mark). I recall Gerry’s convertible mustang? that he drove. So cool. He gave my mother a book to help me read when I was in grade 1. I was a sad student when he left to open St Barnabas; the school was different.
My sincere condolences at his passing. Over the years, I have thought of Gerry and wanted to meet up with him again too. I knew of his friendship with the Greers. Your Dad would likely have recalled me and my brother Chris. Your Dad had Judo at after school – and my brother Chris was strong at it. Anyway, my condolences and may he RIP.
Respectfully, Lazo (Larry) Stamcoff

Posted on: Friday, January 16, 2026Condolences to the family.
One could say that “he planted trees that provide magnificent shade.” He impacted many people as an educator and an appropriately recognized Hall of Famer as a Builder.
I was blessed to cross paths with him, knowing that he made the world around him a better place to be.

Posted on: Friday, January 16, 2026It is with great sadness that i hear of Uncle Gerry’s passing.
Words cannot fully express my sympathy and condolences to his family and friends, especially to my dear cousins Mark and Karen.
I have many memories of the Leverts at Christmas’s and family get-togethers, especially with coffee, puhla and ‘butter cake’.
Gerrys’ cars were always interesting and memorable. The red alfa romeo, the bmw 2002, the Javelin and maybe even a jeep wagoneer?…
Other memories with Uncle Gerry include at the charity bingos, painting the bingo hall! , and on the boat fishing on lake ontario.
Seeing him last summer was special, and he still was (and always will be to me) Uncle Gerry.
with sadness,
Karl and Lorella

Posted on: Friday, January 16, 2026Our friend will be greatly missed. Although we didn’t know Gerry in his early years, we had the privilege of knowing him and sharing stories over his later years. Life, although seemingly longer for some, is a journey no one can predict. Thank you for touching our lives with the joy of your friendship. You will be greatly missed but remembered with many smiles and chuckles. Peace Gerry♥️

Posted on: Sunday, January 18, 2026I am saddened to hear of Gerry’s passing.
Gerry and I became friends when we worked together as Special Education coordinators. He was a delightful colleague, smart, caring, skilled and always full of fun. He worked hard, enjoyed life and always displayed a deep compassion for the teachers and students in his care. He was a great friend to have, forever willing to help whenever he could. His self-deprecating humour was a testament to his inner strength and ability not to take life too seriously.
I will always be grateful for the many opportunities I had to golf with Gerry, to travel with him on occasion, to enjoy his stories and life experiences. Above all, I am thankful to have known him as a great human being. I will miss him dearly.

Posted on: Monday, January 19, 2026Gerry, my husband and I became such great friends when we found ourselves living across from each other in an apartment complex. I would have never thought our connection would flourish the way it did. We spent every single day together for 10 years before we moved. We would eat exquisite dinners, melting our shoes at the bon fire, drink the finest wine on his porch, share deep belly laughs over coffee, watch baseball games yelling at the TV, dine at fine restaurants, late night parties holiday parties in my 600 sqft apartment, bbq amazing meals, haircuts in the backyard. I could go on about our wild times and conversations that live vividly in my memory since his passing. We had the pleasure to go to his favourite fishing lodge in Spanish Ontario. You could see him light up showing us his favourite fishing spots. He dove off a picnic table into the lake at the age of 83.
I miss him, I miss his voice, I miss him saying, “hurry up and take your time,” when I pulled into the driveway at the end of day from work. I always saw him as a father figure. I know all his wild stories from his youth. My heart is certainly hurting and with time, I know it will pass. I am focusing on the fun times, the joy we shared and the love we had. He was my best friend. He believed I always deserved better. We weren’t surface level friends, we were deep soul friends. To when we meet again Pindy, you are one of a kind.

Posted on: Thursday, January 22, 2026I was so sad to hear of Gerry’s passing. He was a very special cousin to me. For many years, he would come to Thunder Bay in August where he had lots of extended family and we always had such a good time having barbecues, brunches and dinners. There was so much love and laughter and a few bottles of beer too! I will treasure these memories always. Gerry and I spent time on the phone over the last years and we both always enjoyed the conversation. He wanted to know what was happening on the farm and we spoke of everything in between. My deepest condolences to Karen and Mark and families. We lost a good man.

Posted on: Monday, January 26, 2026It was an honor for me to have Gerry in my life.
From a friendly neighbour to a truly dear friend.
I am blessed and grateful for all our time together and all the experiences we shared.
Always looking out for us, always so kind to K,
always could be counted on.
All the way from backyard gardens and bbqs to our wedding to fishing at Waterfalls Algoma.
One thing I learned about Gerry is that what brought him the most personal joy was participating in and encouraging anything where he could simply watch other people truly happy and enjoying themselves.
I am grateful that I had the good fortune to become close friends with, talk with, listen to, and learn from him.
Gerry was loved, will be dearly missed, and never forgotten.

Posted on: Wednesday, January 28, 2026My father, Karen and I had rekindled our relationship over the last few years.
My father spent his last years at Kingsway retirement home. It was a place he settled into nicely. He had many friends and was well known for his quick wit and sense of humour. He was never lonely. My father lost none of his cognitive skills with age and was as sharp as a tack. He could at anytime reel off stats on his favorite baseball or basketball star with ease.
Karen and I enjoyed regular visits with him taking him to his favorite pub for clam chowder or hauling him out to my RC Flying club where he would sit outside for hours watching the planes and chatting with the group. He loved the outdoors and was happiest with a beer and sandwich sitting under the sun.
Over the last 3 years my Dad was full of stories that we never knew. He was proud of his work at the schoolboard and was deeply involved with Volleyball and running the bingo hall for over 25 years. He remembered you all! And boy oh boy did Dad have fishing stories, it was a pastime he truly enjoyed.
Gerry like many in Sudbury started working with his Dad in Frood Stobie Mine. Later after university he moved up rapidly in the TDSB to the supervisor of Special Education.
We know he had a positive impact as over the last week we have had many work associates and students he taught reach out with their stories.
Gerry made a positive impact in many!
Your stories have brought us much joy in this stage of life and death, thank you!
Gerry faced a tough decision regarding his health. I want people to know he choose to live and went forth with open heart surgery. He faced an uphill battle and immense pain. He had a zest for life.
Not once did he back down and he fought like a warrior to the end. I am proud to call him my father!
Still to the end he cracked jokes and was able to have one last Stella before passing.
There are many people Id like to thank.
To all Gerry’s friends and staff at Kingsway Home, thank you, he loved you guys.
To the staff at the Cardiac unit at Southlake, you treated my Dad like family and made the best of an impossible situation, Thank you.
To all the Volleyball and ex work colleagues, Thank you, he talked about you all over the last few years.
To Gerry’s friends from Mt Pleasant, thank you.
Gerry’s last wish was to go fishing one last time on the French river.
I will honour his wish this year. He will not be there physically but I know he will be there in spirit.
Karen and I will arrange some type of memorial service in the future date to be announced.
Gerry leaves behind Karen and I, Irene his wife and his other son Alex and many relatives from Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
Linda, Suzanne, Karl, his sister Diane and Carol Anne.
I apologize to those I have missed out on.
We miss you Dad and have nothing but love for you,
Mark Levert
