July 7, 1937 – July 14, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gizella Szucs in the early hours on July 14, 2019 at home surrounded by family after a very courageous battle with lung cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Barrie, Ontario on Sunday, July 28th from 1-6pm.

Predeceased by her husband John, brothers Michael and Alec, and sister Elizabeth. Beloved mother to Erika Selders and John Szucs. Loving grandmother to Danielle (Philipp) Rey, Sandra (Steven) Aiabens, and Michelle Szucs and great-grandmother to Mathias and Theodore Rey, Kirston Szucs, Taylor, David, Autumn, Austin, Phoenix, Kayas and Keynix Aiabens.

Gizella was born in Hungary, and married John in 1953 then they immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Toronto. She was a dedicated employee of Simpsons and then the Hudson’s Bay Company until retiring in August 2002. After retirement, Gizella and her husband John moved to Barrie to be closer to family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always teaching them all the wonderful things about life. She loved doing activities with them. Family and friends was her love and joy. She brightened every room entered with her warmth and smile. In recent years, she loved spending time at the Allandale 55+ Center enjoying fun activities such as mini-golf, darts, lawn bowling and attending shows. Her friends commonly referred to her as “Gizmo” due to her quick-witted personality. Gizella graciously volunteered her time at the Club, and was always there for anyone needing a helping hand. Her most favorite passions were reading and gardening. She will be fondly remembered by everyone for her kind and compassionate spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario M4V 2Y7.
