Glen Martin

June 14, 1940 - August 11, 2019

Funeral Details: Thursday August 22, 2019 from 5 pm - 9 pm Liberty North

In Memory of Glen Martin

Glen Martin, founder of Glen Martin Limited in Barrie, died at home on Saturday August 10th in his 80th year. He died with grace and dignity, surrounded by his loving family.

Glen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and was a very proud Scotsman. He came to Canada in 1966 and then moved to Barrie to start a family in 1969.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 49 years Murielle Martin, son Scott Martin (Maureen LeGendre) and daughter Lisa Martin. He was a proud granddad to Cameron, Connor and James Martin who added light to his life, especially in his last days. Glen was also adored by his granddog Buddy who stayed by his side during his final days, and misses him dearly. He will be sadly missed by his sister Nancy Dalziel, sister-in-law Huguette Goudreault (Jacques) and sister-in-law Denise Bidégaré (Clement). Glen also had many nieces and nephews who were dear to him, that he spoke of fondly.

He was a hard-working, tenacious and passionate man. He was a storyteller who enjoyed making people laugh. Glen was truly “the man who never met a stranger”. Glen bravely fought primary sclerosing cholangitis for many years before his diagnosis in February of cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile ducts.

We would like to thank our family and friends for their support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Jacky Lai and his wonderful palliative care team who provided endless care and support to our Glen. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Adam Gladwish, his radiation oncologist, who gave dad comfort during his illness.

Mr. Glen Martin will continue to “struggle on” in our hearts forever.

In honour of Glen, a Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday August 22nd, from 5 pm to 9 pm, at Liberty North (100 Caplan Avenue, Barrie, Ontario). A tribute will be held at 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.

Although we had lost contact with Glen over the years (except the occasional meeting at the Farmers Market) we had much respect and admiration for the hard working, always smiling Scotsman. Our heartfelt condolences to Murielle.

Glen was the most wonderful person. One of my favourite patients. He came to the office one day to personally give us a tutorial with a “doodlebug” scrubber and we laughed the whole time. He was a brilliant, generous person. We always enjoyed his visits and stories.
