Peacefully, and with his loving family by his side, Mike passed away on May 24, 2025, in his 87th year.

Mike was the beloved husband of Diane (Hanna) for 65 wonderful years.  Together they raised their three daughters, enjoyed their time cottaging at Brandy Lake, travelling, and spending their winters in Mexico.  They were each other’s best friend, every day.  Family was the most important thing to Mike, and no matter what the circumstance he always said, “whatever it is, we will get through it as a family”.  And we will get through this too dad.

Mike was a loving and adored Dad to Cathy Smith (Boyd), Susan Stiff (Tom), and Kelly Wilson (Dennis).  He was the perfect playful Grandpa (I’m not sleeping, I’m just resting my eyes!) to Meagan (Brendan), Jordan, Mitchell (Lindsay), Kayli (Dave), Andrew (Heather), Lexie (Alastair), Cameron, Clayton (Fadi), and best loved Poppa to 11 great grandchildren.

Special thanks to Dr. Stevens and Dr. Russell at RVH Cancer Care, and to the wonderfully caring staff at Hospice Simcoe.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Simcoe ( Donate Here )

At Mike’s request, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at the Sheba Shrine Club (142 John Street, Barrie) from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Dear Diane, Cathy, Susan, and Kelly and family I was so sad to hear of Mike’s passing. I have many fond memories of our times at the cottage, our Christmas and thanksgiving, dinners together and Mike’s infectious laugh. He was always smiling. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My beloved Grandpa – the anchor, the patriarch, the heart and soul of our family.

I will forever remember and cherish you as the magnificent man that you were. You taught me to lead with kindness and live with purpose.

I will forever honour you in the way I treat others, in the traditions I keep, and in the love I pass down through generations.

Forever grateful – Thank you and love you.
