Gunter Kurt Doering, born on August 1, 1941, in Germany to Walter and Elisabeth Doering as the youngest of three children. Gunter passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, surrounded by family at home.
Gunter's journey began in Germany and at the age of 19 where he embarked on a new adventure in Canada, where he was welcomed by Ingrid and Karl Burschberg. His friendships with fellow German immigrants, including Heinz and Ortrud, Wolfgang and Marianne, Bruce and Lilo, and Lutz and Hildegard, became a cornerstone of his new life, his chosen family and introduced him to Otter Lake where he would buy his first property and meet his love, Ria.
In 1965, Gunter and Ria married and together they built a loving home. They spent 16 of those years in Holland Landing and 33 in Barrie. A dedicated and hardworking man in the auto body industry, Gunter met and forged a lifelong friendship with his great friend Dennis Jeannotte and Dennis's wife, Laurie. Through this relationship, Gunter was introduced to Thunder Beach where he and Ria built their cottage overlooking the waters of Georgian Bay and created many fond memories with family and friends for over 25 years.
Loving husband to Ria for nearly six decades, Gunter was the devoted father of Ken (Lesley), Ron (Nora), and Debbie (Chris), and a cherished Opa (grandfather) to Megan, Emma, Brian, Noah, Olivia, Ria, and Abby. His legacy extended further to his great-grandchildren, Mia and Hazel, who brought such joy to his life. A man known for his serious expression, his smile was the biggest and brightest when he was with any of his grandchildren.
Gunter's proudest accomplishment was his family. He took immense pride in building his life and family in Canada, where his love and dedication will forever be remembered.
We love you.
