Gwen Pegg

May 14, 1940 - October 30, 2019

Funeral Details: A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 28 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Community Church, located at 128 St. Vincent Street in Barrie, Ontario. A reception will follow the service.

Gwendolyn Alma (Gwen) Pegg, in her 80th year, died at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on October 30, 2019, following a graceful and courageous battle with kidney cancer.

Born May 14, 1940 in Newmarket to Fred and Winnifred Knights, she married David Pegg of Keswick on June 22, 1968.  Together, they built and operated Living Water Farms in Keswick until Dave’s passing on June 27, 1984.  Gwen continued to run the farm for another 4 years before returning to the medical profession, where she worked until her retirement.

Gwen was an active and dedicated member of Keswick Christian Church, which now sits on a plot of land she donated from the original Living Water Farms home acreage, until she moved to Barrie in 1999.  She then became an active and dedicated member of Bethel Community Church in Barrie, where she served with heartfelt love and passion until her passing.

Gwen is survived by her sons Matthew Pegg (Katherine) of Toronto, Jonathan Pegg (Amanda) of Barrie and their children Connor, Colton and Alexander, her sister Doris Wadsworth of Barrie and her brothers Murray (Barb) Knights of Bobcaygeon and Jim (Ann) Knights of Newmarket.

A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on Thursday November 28 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Community Church, located at 128 St. Vincent Street in Barrie, Ontario.  A reception will follow the service and all who knew and loved Gwen are welcome.

In memory of Gwen, donations to Hospice Simcoe would be very much appreciated by the family. https://www.hospicesimcoe.ca/donating/

We would like to thank the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe for their unwavering care and support for mom during the final stage of her journey.  We would also like to thank all our family and friends who did so much for mom and for their incredible help and support.

My father was one of Dave and Gwen Pegg’s pastors. That meant they became dear family friends. Gwen always remained that kind of friend, a blessing at many times in our lives. She was Mom for Matt and Jon but she had room in her heart for other children, like us. She was generous of spirit and full of love. We miss her but praise God that she is now reunited with Dave whom she dearly missed.

Thinking of Gwen so much today. Our deepest condolences to Matt and John and all the family. We are sorry we are not able to be at the celebration today. I know it will be a true celebration of life and faith and hope and grace. It will be quite a reunion as well I am sure. Gwen was such a gracious, beautiful and hospitable person. Our loss is Heaven’s gain! When I was called to Pastor in Barrie at Bethel and we didn’t have housing figured out yet, Gwen received me to stay at her home during that transition time so I didn’t have to do all the driving back and forth. It was a 5 star place with 5 star hospitality. She was a 5 star person! We love you Gwen and thank God for all the fellowship over the years, and all your love and support of so many of us Pastors in the good old 4C’s days. You had such love and commitment and passion for the Church and God’s Kingdom! You always led with your heart and compassion. Today we remember and celebrate your generous heart. Love in Jesus always, Pastor Adam and Amanda Nickell and family.

I had the pleasure of knowing all about Aunt Gwen for many years thru Sue Klein.
When I relocated to Barrie eight years ago I was fortunate enough to be in Gwen’s neighbourhood. Visiting with her, having tea and chatting are all memories I’ll treasure. She was always a loving, caring, warm woman and friend. Her prayers for me and my family when we went thru a challenging time is a true testament to her faith and love. You will truly be missed by all who knew you.

Matt and Jon and families. I am so thankful for the visit I had with Gwen last week. She seemed so well, but most of all so at peace. Thank you for your loving care for her. She ALWAYS was talking about her “boys”, always so proud! She was an amazing woman and very special to us. My Bethel “mom”. Our church split up but she was always involved with us despite it. I will never forget her and I thank God for her and her ministry. She is having a great party in heaven! She was so at peace… ready to get there for the big reunion 🥰

Kathleen and I are sorry to hear of the terrible loss of Gwen. She was very kind to many, and especially to my daughter Susan. The depths of her love and compassion for others can not be measured. While we grieve her passing we praise how she lived her life. Truly, Gwen was a wonderful example of a Christian woman. A life well lived and an example for all.

We are truly grateful to God for our wonderful friend Gwen. She was a loyal lady and not at all complicated. Her simple faith in Christ is what sustained her through the many challenges she experienced. We will miss her giggles and generosity. Her boys, and that includes her grand-sons, gave her great joy and she truly loved her daughters-in-law. Enjoy the heavenly journey Gwen! See you later. Bruce and Gail

I feel truly blessed to have known this amazing lady. While I’m sure she had her struggles in life, as we all do, she seemed to face everything, including her last days, with courage, compassion, and joy.

Farewell Gwen, I know that some day I will have the joy of singing with you again, in the presence of our Lord!

Bon voyage Gwen. You were truly an inspiration to any who had the priviledge of meeting you. You have left a legacy on this world that will be felt for generations to come. I am happy for you and can only imagine the joy you are now experiencing. I mourn for myself in the loss of you in my life and I mourn for all the people who loved you and are experiencing the same sense of loss. I am, however a better man for having known you and I thank you. Matt and Jon, I pray for you and your families. I know that Gwen was extremely proud of you both and I can see her character reflected in each of you. Thank you for sharing you mother with us.

I will remember her smile, her laughter and her way of expressing love and care in all that she did. So I will not say good bye only, see you later. God willing we will meet again.

Such a woman of faith, grace, strength and compassion. Gwen, we will miss you but know we will see you again in Heaven. It was such a joy to visit you in Hospice where we laughed at your stories, and where we saw Jesus reflected in you. We already miss your sweet voice and countenance. We look forward to being reunited with you and other family and friends who have gone before. “You do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.” 1 Thessalonians 5:13-14. Thank the Lord for the assurance that a blessed eternity with Jesus forever awaits those who trust in Him.

    Dear Matthew and Jonathan:
We were sorry to read of the death of long-time friend, Gwen Pegg. David, Gwen and the boys were close friends when we lived in Stouffville for 17 yrs. I had the privilege of speaking at David’s funeral service in 1984.
This year we have had 12 friends called to their heavenly home. In our daily prayers we had Gwen on the list. Matthew and Jonathan, you had wonderful parents. May God’s presence be with you in these days of saying your farewells.
    Love and prayers,
    Andy and Loetta
