Janet Marie Hornby passed away peacefully at Trinity Village Care Centre in Kitchener, Ontario on Monday August 4th, 2025.
Janet was born in Barrie, April 3rd, 1944, to Ronald and Marion Birnie. She leaves behind her sister Carol Lachance and her nieces Monique, Rochelle and Nicole and their husbands and children respectively Darren, Calum and Kieran, Steven Liam and Aidan, Greg, Georgia and Carson.
For Janet growing up in Barrie and the surrounding areas like Gravenhurst where her grandmother lived were wonderful memories. Her favourite place to visit was Gull Lake. She attended camp there many summers and enjoyed the beautiful waters and amazing scenery.
In her early life she was an expert typist and made her way into being an administrative assistant. She loved music and was very proud of her stereo and was up to date with her music.
Janet loved Barrie and she knew it like the back of her hand and could direct you to wherever you needed to go. She enjoyed going to church with her friend Rose and found solace in her attendance.
Janet spent a lot of time with her mum keeping each other company when both needed it. Janet spoiled Roxy and Casper her mums’ cats and would walk them around the neighbourhood with Lady the dog all on their leashes.
Janet had a challenged and troubled life for much of it but fought hard through her struggles. She had a fiery and sassy personality that helped her endure some of her battles.

Every person has their secret sorrows which the world knows not and often times we call a person cold when they are only sad.
Thank you so much to the staff of Trinity Village Care Centre who made her last days so happy and safe.
