Janine (Jan) Scott-Hutman

October 22, 1922 - January 30, 2023

Funeral Details: Private family arrangements

Jan passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, shortly after her 100th birthday, a life well lived with spirit, adventure, humor, and love.

Predeceased by her parents, Louisa and Armand Dalpeé; her brother Peter Dalpé; her husband of 50+ years, Ronald L. Scott; her second husband of 14 years Charles Hutman, and her beloved grandson Scott Dowdall.  Celebrating her life and mourning her passing are her children: Jim (Lois), Darla (George Trefiak), of Barrie; Sandra (Terry Barnes and late Bob Dowdall) of Fishaven, Idaho; Terri (Paul Thompson) of Barrie; Cheryl (late Al Larrett) of Desbarats and Phillip (Cathy) of Elmvale; her brother Paul Dalpé of Dowling and nieces and nephews.  Much loved by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren for whom Jan knit and sewed beautiful creations and cooked and baked their special treats.

Jan was an accomplished florist, floral designer, seamstress and knitter, and later a crafter at Parkview Centre; a wonderful cook and hostess, entertaining family, friends, and welcoming strangers who were soon friends.  She shared these many talents with her family and friends.

Jan enjoyed curling, camping, fishing and travel with Ron in Northern Ontario and Northwest Territories, across Canada and US.  She embraced the snowbird lifestyle in Arizona with Charlie, where Jan enjoyed all the activities, dancing, desert walks and ATVing, happy hour and BBQ’s with friends and neighbours and visits to Mexico.  She was still participating in activities at Livita Barrington Retirement in Barrie, such as Crazy Hair Day, Halloween Dress Up, Blue Jays Day and still dancing until recently.

Jan was an inspiration to many women, young and old, throughout her life.  Her loving care, hard work, positive "get on with it" attitude, fashion sense, quick wit and bright smile is now and will be carried forward through the generations.

A gathering of family and friends to share love, laughter, photos, memories, and great stories will take place in the spring.  Cremation has taken place.  Should you wish, donations to Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated.   https://hospicesimcoe.ca/

Jan was an inspiration of joy and love to all of us here at the Barrington. She always joined in the fun, right to the end, and we LOVED her for that. What a treasure to have known her, a loss for our community but a gift to have been in her presence for the last few years of her life.
With lots of love Emily and the Barrington team
