Jessie Ellen Varty

May 31, 1933 - May 11, 2021

Funeral Details:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Ellen Varty (nee Heap) at her home in Barrie, Ontario, with her loving husband by her side. Jessie has been a warrior with many health challenges over the last few years, including breast and lung cancer. Beloved wife of 55 years to John Varty. Cherished mother of Peter (Lori), and proud Nana of Carys and Jacob. Jessie will be deeply missed by many extended family members and friends.  She is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Madeleine Heap and her sisters Lynda Lindquist and Wilma Blevins.

Jessie was a familiar face at the SCDSB for many years. She was an avid golfer, and missed being out on the course with her many friends. Jessie loved to sing and was a member of the King Edward Choir and loved bringing the joy of music to local nursing homes. Jessie’s bouquet of life was full of brilliant colour, humour and light.

The family is deeply grateful to Dr Emerson, Dr Paul Howard and all the caring and dedicated home care staff who made it possible for Jessie to stay at home for her final days. Special thanks to Barrie Police Service members Candice Wilkinson  and Tanya Lynch for your kindness and grace.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future when Covid protocols allow. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

We will miss Jessie dearly. She was always ready to have fun and enjoy new experiences. We had long drives, played cards and Mah Jong, visits to the gym and coffee at Tim Hortons. Be at peace our friend.

We will remember Jessie so dearly in our hearts. Cherishing our laughs together on the golf course and her hilarious off colour jokes at lunches and banquets. We had tremendous trips to Sedona and Hilton Head for golf but mostly just for the fun of it. I think of her with Nancy Hubble now watching over our games. Love you Jessie.

My deepest sympathy to John and the Varty family on the passing of Jessie. I worked with Jessie at the SCDSB Central Regional Office in Minesing many years ago…we had a lot of happy times as Secretaries trying to keep everyone organized.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
