Joan Teresa Thompson

July 21, 1937 - July 3, 2025

Funeral Details:

Passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 87 years.

Daughter of the late William “Bill” and Gabrielle “Gabe.” Beloved wife of the late Joseph “Bud” Thompson (July 11, 2009). Loving mother of Debbie (Rick), Brian, and Blaine. Cherished grandma of Chantelle (Jordan) and Nichole (Andy). Joan is survived by her sisters Pat and Marie (John), and predeceased by her brothers Peter and Billy and partner Brian G. In the last 10 years of her life, she had a beautiful companion in Brian G. They shared many laughs, memorable adventures, and some lovely vacations together. He was a true blessing in her life.

Joan was known for her feisty spirit, strong will, and independent nature.  She had a deep love for animals, her dog “Teddy”, and cat “Finnigan”, held special places in her heart.  As a dedicated volunteer with St. John Ambulance’s Therapy Dogs program, she found joy in bringing comfort to others.

Joan loved the outdoors and spending time tending to her garden.  For many years Bud and Joan enjoyed camping, or spending time at the cottage, both cherishing their time in nature.  She and Bud shared many adventures together, with Hawaii being her favourite travel destination.  In their younger years, they were enthusiastic square dancers—Joan even sewed their matching outfits.

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  If desired, memorial donations can be made to Hospice Simcoe at https://hospicesimcoe.ca
