Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 from 12pm-2pm
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Joanne March on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her parents, John and Elsie Willson, Joanne is now reunited with her beloved husband, Robert March.
She was the loving mother of Scott (Shayna) March and Bruce March, and the proud grandmother of Jakob and Julia March. She will be dearly missed by her close friend Lorna Manning, with whom she shared a cherished friendship for over 35 years, as well as her dear friends Marilynne and John Bricker.
Born in Collingwood on January 11, 1938, Joanne was raised on a farm in Angus with a strong sense of community and kindness that defined her entire life. As an accomplished pianist and dedicated educator—most recently at Allandale Heights Public School—Joanne had a profound impact on generations of students. She was the kind of teacher whom students remembered forever and spoke of often, instilling in them not just foundational knowledge, but a genuine and lasting passion for the arts.
A dedicated advocate for creatures great and small, Joanne’s most recent companion was her beloved rescue cat, Joey. In keeping with her profound love for animals, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to an animal shelter or animal-related organization of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026, from 12pm-2pm. Condolence messages may be left for the family at www.peacefultransition.ca.

I was awed byJoanne’s musical talents and her guidance through many musical performances was invaluable. We shared many good times together in those days. My deepest sympathies go to you, Scott, and the rest of your family. She was quite a lady.

Posted on: Monday, June 29, 2026I want to extend my sincere sympathies to both Scott and Bruce, as well as their families on the passing of their mom. I had the privilege of being taught by “Mrs. March” while attending Allandale Heights and will always remember her warm and caring approach … as well as her commitment to the not just academics but also her support of the many school musicals and performances she was part of.
Cherish the many memories and the many people that were fortunate to have shared in her journey.
