Funeral Details:

CASTLEDINE, John

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Castledine at the young age of 79.  He passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021 at Hospice Simcoe.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late William and Ada Castledine.  He came to Canada in his early teens with his mother, sister, and brother.  He met his lifelong friends in Ottawa as well as his first wife Judy with whom he had two daughters.  John later met the love of his life, Isabell in the early ’70s, and together they completed their family with a son and two more daughters.  He held a deep passion for aerospace, which likely began from his first entry into the world, during an air raid in WWII.  His love for the sky included becoming a skydiver, pilot, airplane mechanic, flight engineer, and later home renovator.  He was smart, funny, adventurous, and willing to take on just about anything on the earth and in the air.  He loved to have a creative space where he built model airplanes, drew schematics of the planes he loved so much; the Avro Arrow being one of his favorites.  Nothing brought him more joy and smiles than the dogs that provided joy, love, and companionship over the years.  In a true show of his practical nature, when reflecting on his life, he said “I have done everything I have wanted to in my life, don’t worry about me”.

John is predeceased by his wife, Isabell who he missed daily; since her passing in 2017.  He will surely be reunited with his “sweetie”.  She will likely be waiting and ask what took him so long.

Much loved father of (the late) Wendy Castledine, Barbara Castledine, Karen Sutor (Paul), Grant Castledine (Jeanette), and Angela Wilkinson (late husband Brad).

Grandfather to Corey, Chris, Tyler, Caylin, (the late) Brandon, Dustin, Emma, Dale, Braden, Liam, Tyler, Tia, Tiffanie, and Chris.  Great-Grandfather to Finnian, Carter, and Everleigh.

He will be fondly remembered by his siblings, Ruth Castledine, James Castledine, Wilma Campbell (Steve).  Also, fondly remembered by his favorite brother-in-law Peter Campbell, along with his nieces and nephews Chad, Josie, David, and Melissa.  John will be missed by his many friends and family with whom he loved having a beer and a laugh, especially Dave Anderson who was a life-long devoted friend and part of the family.

A Celebration of Life will be postponed to a later date when family and friends can safely gather together.

Memorial contributions to the “Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum” are welcome as planes were a passion of John’s.  You may also contribute to Hospice Simcoe or the Canadian Cancer Society.

We want to also acknowledge the personal support and love provided by the staff at Creedon Valley Care Community over the last few years.

Heartfelt condolences to the Castledine family on the passing of John. He got on well with my late husband Bill, and our families spent some happy times together when the kids were all young. Angela and Eileen have been friends since before kindergarten. Even our dogs were friends – Buffy and Laddie.
    He will be sadly missed.
