John Dunn Fedyk

March 25, 1950 - August 24, 2022

Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

John Dunn Fedyk, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly on August 24th, 2022, in Aurora, Ontario.  He was predeceased by his father, John Thomas (1984) and mother, Agnes (nee Dunn) (2010).

Carrying on his legacy and commitment to learning, he leaves behind his sister, Susan (Stewart), niece, Jennifer and nephew, John (Sydney).

Born on March 25th, 1950, in Montreal, PQ, John always had a thirst for knowledge and became a lifelong student.  He completed his undergraduate degree at McGill University followed by a MSc degree at the University of Calgary and later a PhD at the University of Toronto.  John’s formal education was complemented by his hobby of learning software and systems design development.  This led to a career developing navigation systems for the naval, aeronautics and aerospace industries with a career highlight working on the development of the Canadarm 1 for the Space Shuttle while at Spar Aerospace.

John settled in Aurora, Ontario, in his lifelong home where he enjoyed the outdoors and camping in Algonquin Park with buddies and continued his love of photography including developing his own prints.

A frugal, disciplined, and humble man, John overcame more than 40 years of kidney transplant adversities.  He retired at the age of 55 and continued his passion for software development as a hobby while he became a movie buff and learned many new handyman skills around his beloved home.

Whether he was enjoying the breeze while driving his perfectly calibrated Mercedes or most recently joining in celebration of his nephew’s wedding in Banff, John always, as his late Mother (Agnes) would have said, “Lived in the Moment”.

John once wrote “the solvation of lithium, sodium, potassium, silver, and tetra-n-butylammonium salts in propylene carbonate was studied by infrared and proton magnetic resonance techniques.” To all who knew John, this would translate into his way of saying that through everything and with careful thought, he loved as much as he was loved.

He will be dearly missed.
