Joyce Noreen Elliott (nee Hodgson)

February 25th, 1942 - January 24th, 2023

Funeral Details: A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.

The spirit of Joyce Noreen Hodgson left her earthly body on the evening of Tuesday January 24th, 2023. She was one month shy of her 81st birthday.

Joyce was born on February 25th, 1942 to Marjorie Georgie Hodgson and Thomas Charles Hodgson both from Craighurst, Ontario. She was their middle child and was predeceased by her older brother and sister, Bill and Fern, and her younger brother and sister, Gary and Susan. Joyce survived her first husband Keith Brett of Alliston and her second husband Jerry Elliott of Barrie. She will be sadly missed by her children, Scott Brett and his partner Patty, who reside in Barrie and her daughter Kim Christopher and her husband Neil, who reside in Guelph. Joyce’s pride and joy were her grandchildren Mitch (partner Chelsea) and Jenna (husband Dylan), and her great grandson, Oslo. Every phone conversation ended in “Tell the kids I love them.”

Joyce had a lively, vivacious personality and the ability to light up a room. Her sense of humour was punctuated by her beautiful smile and sparkling blue/grey eyes. She was a fierce cribbage player, a lover of music and movies. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and entertaining; setting a beautiful table and welcoming friends and family into her home.  She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of her suits, dresses and gowns. Over the years Joyce worked with many wonderful people at Malcomson’s Insurance, Radio Shack, among others, and created many lasting friendships.

Joyce will be laid to rest in the family plot in Craighurst, alongside her mother and father and her brother Gary. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.

In her memory, contributions may be made to Furry Friends in Barrie by calling (705)792-4911 or through their website at furryfriendsarrie.com as Joyce loved animals almost more than people.

I’m glad I could talk to Joyce often before her passing even though I live far from Ontario. For Christmas I played her favorite Elvis Presley’s song, If Every Day Was Like Christnas. She could listen to it on the phone…. You will be missed Joyce. Love you always.

Sending family condolences, Kim and family. Your Mom was a free spirit and lived life on her terms. We had so many great family times at the farm growing up with music, card games and childhood freedom! Such good times. Our prayers are with you 💐
