FILO, Karl Thomas
February 20, 1932 - December 9, 2020
Karl Filo passed peacefully at the Mill Creek Care Centre with family by his side on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in his 89th year. Dear husband of Ann Filo for 64 years. Beloved father of Debra Gariepy (Chris), Marian Filo Carroll (Vince), Cynthia Filo, and Veronica Vulic (Danijel). Proud and loving grandfather of Ryan, Gillian, Tyler, Tara, Logan, and Tomas. Karl was born near Hearst, Ontario in a small Slovak community. He served his country as a pilot in the RCAF. Karl was involved with the Knights of Columbus in both Whitby and Barrie as an active member and as Grand Knight for many decades. He volunteered in many other organizations such as Durham Separate School Board (now DCDSB) and the Durham Heart and Stroke Foundation. Karl also loved wood-working, gardening, reciting poetry, and sharing his vocal talents with all that would listen. He will be fondly missed by his remaining brother, John (Monique) and all of his extended family members and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff for the extremely compassionate care of Karl, on the 3 East floor at the Mill Creek Care Centre. A Celebration of Life for immediate family will occur in the future once Covid-19 restrictions settle. Arrangements have been entrusted to Peaceful Transitions, Barrie. Online condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca.

Posted on: Thursday, December 10, 2020I am saddened by the passing of this jovial man. I will miss him and his contributions to family gatherings. Based on all that I know of Karl, I believe that he is now enjoying a new existence with the Lord; and that he is in the company of those family members and friends who were already there and have welcomed him into his new life.

Posted on: Saturday, January 9, 2021This is sad to hear, very sad. Amazing man. He definitely inspired my love of carpentry. I always remember the smell of his pipes. Big loss.

Posted on: Wednesday, February 10, 2021I just saw Mr. Filo’s obit. I am so sorry for your loss. My favorite memory of Karl is his pipe and the smell of the tobacco in its pouch. My thoughts and prayers are with you now. All my love Sandy
