Please accept my deepest condolences on Jan’s passing. I had the pleasure of “Driving Miss Jan” around the city to various shopping destinations and appointments. Her humour helped make those trips fun, and I will miss them.

Auntie Janice’s creations were indestructible. Bric-a-brac trim makes everything better. I still have the A pillow she made for me — the A was made from tuxedo ruffle material, and the pillow was so soft, perfect for resting my growing-pain-riddled legs at night. I nearly lost it at a hotel once when I was a kid, but fortunately the cleaning lady found it in the sheets and stashed it on her cart. It went to college with me and I just found it in my closet the other day. I will keep it close. Sending love to all.

May you rest in Paradise, Jan. It was wonderful knowing you. Your legacy is thriving in your children and grandchildren. Thank you for your wit and humour and salty stories. You shall live as long as there are people who remember you. Dance with the Angels.

When I look at that picture of Auntie Janice, I can hear her laughter! I have many fond memories of playing with the cousins at her house. Dogs were always a special part of visits to there, as well. When she came to our house, she would sew up a storm! One of my favorite Auntie Janice creations was a men’s style suit vest that she sewed strips from neckties on. It was very cool, and no one else had one like it. She also made me a vest from Mexican embroidered fabric. Again, it was one of a kind! And even more special because it was sewn with love. My sister Amanda took her A pillow to college with her… I took a large green and white striped fabric laundry bag my aunt made. She stitched these words on it: “Katie’s laundry. Warning: contents very offensive.” It was indestructible, and yes, probably offensive at times. Sending lots of love to Ellen, Eric, Karen, and families.

While Jan was still working at RVH she took a difficult solutions and conversions’ meds course for her work on Paeds. The course was demanding but she diligently studied and passed with honours.. We talked about what a challenge it was d/t job, young family, and life. I admired her skill and knowledge because she was dedicated always to her patients. She even commandeered her brother off the train one Christmas to get to the hospital in TB and have Dr. McCausland take out his appendix !

The Peace of God that transcends all understanding will keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God. The Fellowship of the Spirit of God will keep Jan with me until we see each other again

Thinking of your family at this sad time. The Erickson family were our neighbours in Terrace Bay in the 1950’s. When I was born in 1953, I was named Janice after Janice Erickson. My parents, Rita and Duncan McKenzie, enjoyed their friendship with Annie and Sig and family. Sorry to hear of your loss.

We are very sorry and sad to hear about the passing of Jan. We sure are going miss Jan and of course Daisy. As our neighbor for the past 11 years, she always welcomed us into her home to have a chat and a visit with Spirit and Daisy. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. RIP dear neighbor Jan.

I had to pleasure of working with Jan for many years at Campbellford Memorial Hospital. I was a newby having just graduated, and Jan was one of the nurses that showed me the ropes. She taught me to stand up for myself, and our patients, even if it meant annoying a doctor !!. We had lots of laughs, and I have many memories of those years. So very sorry to hear of her passing. So sorry to learn of Janice’s passing. The Erickson’s lived just up the street from us. Although she was a little older, I was good friends with her brother Fred. My elder siblings were friends of Janice. I remember the countless hours that her father put in at the arena and how he was the first in line to drive players to out of town tournaments. Rest in peace. You have a large family to look down on.

    Ellen, Eric & Karen,

I am so sorry for your loss. I hadn’t seen your Mom in decades, but I still have a little table cloth she made for me. I wore the shorts she made until they wore out. She was such a giving person. Although we are separated by many years and many kilometres, I still think of you and your family often – many good time remembered.

    Lots of love, Diane

My condolences to brother Jim and daughter Ellen and all of the family members. It was a privilege to have known Jan as a high school classmate in Schreiber. I am glad I had a chance to talk to her about a year ago. Jan was a participant in preparing the 1955 SCS yearbook. The grandchildren might enjoy that particular publication.

From the time we were all cousins in Terrace Bay Ontario, Janice was the only girl with her two brothers and her three rowdy Wilson cousins.. She took a lot of teasing. As kids Janice and my brother Brian used to fight a lot but they both grew up to be well respected in their chosen careers.
    She is sadly missed.
