Kathryn Anne Ryan (Haslehurst)

Kathryn Anne “Kathie” Ryan (Haslehurst), age 71, of Newmarket, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 1, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Kathie was born in Parry Sound on December 3, 1949. She graduated from Parry Sound High School and continued on to receive a nursing degree from the School of Nursing in Hamilton.

Kathie married her beloved soulmate Patrick Ryan on August 8, 1992; they were married 29 years.

Kathie worked as an obstetrical nurse at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket for many years, and loved bringing babies into the world. Following that, she worked as the Occupational Health Nurse at Rimply Manufacturing in Newmarket. An avid reader, Kathie loved keeping busy and enjoyed several hobbies passionately, including gardening, cooking, biking, dancing, and a variety of artistic crafts. Kathie was a keen environmentalist and loved walking in nature. She was a proud Monarch butterfly “mama” and successfully reared many new Monarchs into the world. Kathie had a great sense of humor and she will be remembered for her vibrancy, her infectious laugh and her love of family gatherings.

Kathie is survived by her husband Pat, her children Cameron and Andrew Burns, her step-children Leslie Virag (Sasha), Samantha Virag, Marnie Ryan (Alan), and Jason Ryan (Belsi), her grandchildren (Henry, Claire, Daniel, James, Molly, Emily, and Lucas), siblings Nancy Waldbrook (George), Bruce Haslehurst (Linda), Lori Suffern (Steve), and Michael Haslehurst (Martha). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Kathie is predeceased by her parents, Glen and Enid (Dyer) Haslehurst.

I was so very sorry to hear of Kathryn’s passing. She was a lovely person and I always enjoyed talking to her. We both worked for Magna plants as occupational health nurses. She was just a phone call away when I wanted a second opinion or support. I will miss her.

My sincere condolences to Pat and the whole family on Kathy’s passing. She was a lovely person whom I met through my sister, Sandy, and I have known her for over 20 years. She was my sister’s Matron of Honor. She will be missed by many people.

My sincere condolences to Pat and Kathie’s extended family. I will always remember Kathie as a compassionate and caring woman who was unflappable in dealing with difficult situations. Mostly I will remember her excellent sense of humour and her chuckle.
