I was shocked and very shaken this morning to hear about Kellie’s passing. We had worked together for years at Andrew Hunter while she was in the DS class. I had the privilege of being her planning time teacher for a couple of years; I would come in to cover her class a couple of times a week while she took her planning time. I got to see first-hand her incredible commitment to her students. It was clear right from the beginning that Kellie was dedicated to seeing the students in her care flourish: her programming was innovative and exciting; she knew the day-to-day issues, challenges, and experiences of every one of those students and their families because she was in constant contact with their parents and guardians. She cared about those children. She’d spend hours and hours preparing lessons and life experiences, and I watched withdrawn and sometimes defeated children blossom and grow under her care. I’ll never forget when she told me about how one of her students had sworn at her, but she was delighted! Seeing the confusion on my face, she laughed and cried out, “He’s always been non-verbal until now! This is great!!” That’s the kind of person I remember: positive, thinking outside of the box, dynamic, energetic, and loving. Kellie, I’m so sad that you’re gone. I will miss your lovely spirit.

    From the Woodlock Family,

Kellie was a loving and kind person; as well as a devoted mother to us. She not only raised us, but molded us into being the strong and confident people we are today. She fought and advocated for us when no one else did. As well as taught us the value of being humble and kind to others beyond ourselves. We may of had our up’s and downs due to her mental health but she will always be our mother. Love you forever more to our dearest mother. Rest in peace 🙏❤️

Kellie was a wonderful teacher and mentor. Her passion for special education was breathtaking to watch, she loved her students and they loved her.
I was thankful enough to get to work beside her in her Developmental Skills class as a college placement student. She made me fall in love with the job I have now.
Kellie always knew how to make everyone in her classroom feel welcomed, whether it being her students, EAs, volunteers, or even other students in the school. You never felt uncomfortable around her.
Her laugh was contagious. She always taught others to be kind to one another. She pushed everyone to be them best self’s.

My condolences go out to Kellie’s family, friends, students, and former coworkers.

On the greatest of occasions, one is lucky enough to cross paths with a human who holds within them an incredibly brilliant light. If you’re very blessed; you call her your teacher or your friend.
Our family is grateful to have called Kellie both. She encouraged kindness and fairness for all she touched. Her magic power was ensuring all children belonged. She truly made a difference in the lives of those she taught with kindness and compassion. Kellie’s light will live on in the hearts of every child she made feel included and in the souls of every parent she ensured was heard.
    Peace be with you,

She had a wonderful way of making sure everyone around her knew where they shined…yet she was terrible at taking a compliment herself 💕 She was a mentor to me for many years when we worked together in her DS class and friends even longer as she was to so many. There our no words of how shocked I was to hear about her passing, It has broke my heart . Kelly was my first teacher to work with as an E.A. at Andrew Hunter. The passion she had for each and every child and E.A’s in room was remarkable! She welcomed me with open arms and made me feel part of the team. She taught me so much about the job and always was praising me, which made even work harder, as I looked up to her for many things teaching, huge heart, kindness that she gave to all. I knew than I was going to be a great E.A. because of all these things she taught me. I will never forget all the cooking and baking we did in that room ! She wanted to make sure every child had a good meal once a week. There days when she was away I would than be the teacher she always gave me confidence that I had it! When a permanent position came she kept say apply apply so I did . With her great reference like overboard lathering it up. Lol Needless to say I got the job. I’m forever grateful for having her on my side when I started my new journey ❤️ Kelly and I had many personal talks we both suffered depression and anxiety and we helped each other out on those days. There were some tuff times for us both but on good days we had so many laughs! That smiling face I will never forget and her laugh . It saddens me that she had to fight mental illness all her life because lord knows she was the kindness big hearted best special ed teacher ever yes I mean ever! In this time we found out our family cottages were one row so we did some visiting in the summer to. I worked with Kelly when she was adopting Saleh she was so stressed but so excited and when he came to live with her everyday we herd stories about him ! She was a proud mama. She loved from the start. Well I have gone on and on but there is not enough words to put down about her because she was an amazing lady. Kellie You will be in my heart forevermore and I will cherish every memory I have of you and our journey at Andrew Hunter. Rest In Peace my friend no more pain my friend that last sigh you took was the biggest relief Of all those mental illness issues gone and now always happy and free! Love you and I will make sure you are kept a legend as an educator. Big hugs and kisses 😘 you will be the best angel ever.! God I just want to keep writing and writing but I won’t I look forward to a celebration of life for you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❌⭕️❌⭕️❌⭕️🍻🙏🌄 🤘🤘🦋🦋👼 my condolences to the family.

    To Wayne, Saleh, & Shayne:

Since I grew up so far away from you guys we haven’t had the opportunity to make many memories together, but I will always remember a few I’ve shared with your Mom. When I was younger she took me to the beach one summer afternoon. We swam, laughed, and soaked in the sunshine. I could tell she loved the beach as much as I do. I also remember walking that huge dog (I believe his name was Grizzly?) around your neighborhood together. When I went to your grandparent’s house in Florida for Christmas one year she gave me the cutest pink sweater that I loved and wore all the time. I can also remember her dancing by the pool and having a blast. She was always kind, beautiful, and generous. Whenever she asked me a question about my life or about my opinion on something, I could tell she wasn’t asking just for the sake. She really cared about what I had to say or what I thought – even when I was a little girl.

I mentioned that I wanted to explore Toronto when I was up there last and she planned the entire day. We got up super early and I got introduced to TimBits for the first time ever (God I wish we had those down here). We went shopping at the Eaton Centre, had lunch at a really nice restaurant, took a boat tour, and walked around downtown. We got back to Wasaga Beach at night. I had so much fun shopping and talking and getting to know her! That entire day was planned solely for me. I will never forget spending time with her at Busch Gardens, either. Saleh, Shayne, and I rode every single roller coaster they had. Sometimes twice. You could tell just by being around her and by hearing her stories how much she loves you three. This world can be so dark at times, but your Mom was a light! I know that she is watching over you guys and will be guiding you every step of the way.

Praying for you guys and sending you love!

I had the pleasure to have met Kellie in my late teens. We spent quality time together in our twenties and I have to say that I loved her as my sister. In the 80’s when women were rapidly entering the workforce she proved that a woman could be beautiful, intelligent and kind. But most of all that she wanted to be a mother more than anything else in the world. I learned from her about people with disabilities and the importance of education, care and social acceptance. It is something to this day that has shaped my outlook. To her parents, brothers and their families, her children and her friends. Please accept my condolences.

I want to share with you what your mom meant to me. Kellie was a cousin I always looked up to and tried to emulate. My fondest memories growing up, and my most treasured recent memories, involve spending time with Kellie. I loved spending time with her in Ancaster, at the cottage, at Grandma’s house in Caledonia and at her home near Wasaga. She was beautiful, intelligent and the most caring and compassionate person, always. When she became a teacher, I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to make a difference, like her. I always have, and always will, adore her.

When we shared time together when celebrating Grandma’s 95th birthday, I wanted to emulate her as a mother. The way she encouraged, supported, loved and advocated for her boys has inspired me to be a better mom. She loved you so much.

Tyler, Brayden, Isabella and I are wrapping you in the biggest virtual hugs, and we love you.

I grew up down the road from the Nash family, and although I wasn’t close to Kellie as an adult, I knew her as a child. It is sad to lose someone who advocated for those who needed it in order to make the world a better place; that said, it is a testament to Kellie’s character that she chose to live her life that way.

My deepest condolences to all the family and loved ones,
    Chris.

My entire family grieves and we send our prayers in favour of Kellie, her entire family and friends. We moved to Ancaster in 1961 right across the street from her mom and dad, on Manitou Way. The Nash family were great friends to my parents being so helpful in a myriad of ways that I will never forget. Having moved we do somewhat lose contact but we did manage go get up to their cottage and I met Kellie again at the AHVS reunion. Following her and her family on social media it was clear that she was a loving and committed activist for so many things and had many friends. We are all prisoners of the current C19 and like many people that have lost loved ones during this time our ability to gather, love, embrace and console is restricted. We are sending as much love as humanly possible with our hearts, minds and souls.

To the Nash Family: My deepest sympathies to the whole family. The best street neighbours we had in Ancaster and with very fond memories of our outings at Woodland Beach were the best. Kellie will be in my thoughts.

    To Kellie’s family our heart.
This woman was an angel on earth for us and our family.
She saw the light in Corey and in turn showed us how to make it burn strong and full. Her smile and strength is admired by all of us.
I will share that with Kellie-in quiet moments and prayers to her-she lives on in her children and all the people she touched.
We would be honored if we could attend a future memorial service. Bless you Kellie.

My heart aches to hear of Kellie’s passing. She was a force to be reckoned with in advocating for her students. I learned so much about accommodations and modifications to curriculum when working with her as an EA at Andrew Hunter in her DS classroom. Her energy was boundless and she never ever gave up trying to reach her most challenging students. I will never forget her dedication and advocacy for her students! She will be so dearly missed by all she those she has touched!

A few weeks ago I found out about Kellie’s passing. My heart is heavy with sadness. My deepest condolences to Bonnie and Linden Nash and the entire family. Kellie was an educator and a lover of books and all things literary. She was a staunch supporter of local authors. She was a kind woman who helped those in need, a wonderful mother, and a caring friend. I would like to share a poem I dedicated to Kellie. Kellie is gone too soon, but never forgotten!

    Remember
    (By Bianca Lakoseljac)
    In memoriam: Kellie Nash Woodlock

“How frail the human heart must be—a mirrored pool of thought.” – Sylvia Plath

    Kellie—how I remember you:
    Woodland Beach
—a silhouette—against the glowing globe of Sun
    verging on the crashing swells.
Rock, elemental. Dunes of blushing sand.

If I tried to describe our friendship,
I’d gush about all the potholes life hands out,
the challenges we face as life partners, mothers, daughters,
career womenfolk—and you’d listen, patiently, empathically,
as if you had no cares in the world.
—About growing up in an ancient village
in a war-torn country, the country that no longer exists,
raised by a grandmother who died all too soon, the year you were born.
Your words of praise for my stories, generous.
Literary readings: Newmarket Main Street coffee-shop,
    long before Covid-19 moved in.
    Wasaga Beach Library—all-time favourite.
The library is where we both felt at home.
You never talked of your childhood.
It was happy, I assumed. No war mars your memory.
No strife. No exile. Love for all your children.
    Friends—so dear. Love for all.

    How I remember you.
So incandescent—alight in rays of gold.
    Elegant—a citizen of the world.
    How could we not believe
    you would be there forever?

Now, above all, the ones you loved eternally
    mourn you.
And the sands still resonate your affectionate laughter.
    …………

    Rest in peace, dear Kellie.
