It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kelly Cook, who left us on April 24, 2023, at the age of 60 years.  Kelly was the daughter of Ronald and Betty Johnstone.  Beloved wife of the late James Cook (2018).  Kelly will be lovingly remembered as a second mom of Bill (Tricia), Cindy (Jeff), and Ben (Soraya), and as a dear nana of Mackenzie (Tom), Brittany (Nick), Skylar (Shelby), Jordan, Colin, and Owen.  Sister of Bruce (Ada), Christine (Brian), and her twin Kirk (Sue).  She also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and by her many friends.

She had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed walking in nature, fishing, and simply spending time in nature's beauty.  Kelly loved to sing and was always the life of the party when it came to karaoke.  Her favourite song to was "Coal Miner's Daughter" by Loretta Lynn.  Kelly was a social butterfly and had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went.

Kelly was known for her love of food, but not for her cooking skills.  Her infamous turkey that was once cooked upside down always brought a smile to everyone's face.  Kelly's special fur-baby, her dog Makwa, held a special place in her heart and will miss her dearly.

Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of Kelly's life on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 1 pm - 4 pm, at the Ferndale Banquet Hall, 24 Ferndale Industrial Dr., Barrie..  You will be missed and know that you will always be remembered and missed by those whose lives you touched.

I was trying to think of something about Kelly that really stood out in my memories and I realized very quickly that it was her laugh. She always struck me as a very special person who acted as a kind of light for those around her. I honestly wish that I’d been able to share more time with my beautiful cousin. My condolences go out to her family, friends, and all who knew her.

I just learned of Kelly’s passing today. I can still remember her laugh even though I have lost contact with her over 30 years ago, since moving to BC. I first met Kelly in Grade 1 in Aurora. I spent many days at the Johnstones pool in the summer. Ron, Betty, Bruce, Christine, Kirk and family…I appreciate the time that she was part of my life as a young dude….Mark Bellingham
