Ken passed away at Matthews House Hospice on January 4, 2026. The boys, their spouses, our granddaughter and his wife kept watch over Ken constantly for four days. When we stepped out to catch our breath Ken left us on his own terms.
Ken was the beloved husband of Florence Binns, very proud dad of Mike (Mina), Lauren, Tye (Veronica), Zak (Janine), and Lucas (Ashley). Bonus dad of Chris (Adrianna). Loving JiJi and grandpa to Emma, Jackson, Baby Hord due April, 2026, and Baby Hord due July 2026. Brother of Tim (Michelle), and predeceased by his sister Sue and parents John and Shirley Hord. Loving uncle and great uncle.
Ken bravely fought Primary Progressive Aphasia and Atypical Alzheimers for the last fourteen years. He is finally at peace and rest from this awful disease. As the disease progressed Ken’s personality changed in that he loved to do adult colouring, dance, and be the entertainer to everyone he met. That was a joy for us to see.
Ken has been cremated. In honour of Ken’s memory, if you wish, the family would request donations to Matthews House Hospice , 131 Wellington St. E., Alliston in honour of the wonderful care that they gave to Ken, not only in the last days of his life, but for the year Ken attended their day program.
A Celebration of Life for Ken will be planned in the next little while.

Posted on: Friday, January 9, 2026I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to Flo, to all of the boys, and to your entire family and circle of friends. Your dad was such a kind, genuine man. He always looked out for me growing up.
Lucas was one of my best friends, and some of my fondest childhood memories are from being neighbors with the Hord family. I will always remember the pool parties he threw — the laughter, the feeling of being so welcomed, and the way he made everyone feel included and cared for. Those moments meant more than I have ever said at the time.
He had a way of making people feel safe, seen, and at home, and his kindness left a lasting mark on my life. Please know that you are all in my thoughts, and I’m sending so much love and strength to Flo, the boys, and everyone who loved him during this incredibly difficult time.

Posted on: Friday, January 9, 2026Our deepest sympathies on the passing of Ken – he was a really fine man and a sweet husband to Flo and father to all his progeny. I always found him super likeable and funny, with a fine sprinkling of gentleman. His last decade was challenging for sure, for the whole family and I hope all can find peace knowing that Ken has been released from that disease and is free to fly wherever…Our hearts go out to you all – with love 💕 Bob & Michelle..

Posted on: Monday, January 12, 2026My deepest condolences to Flo and the boys. Ken was a truly kind and likeable man, a wonderful neighbour, and someone whose quick sense of humour brought so much laughter and joy to those around him. My family will always cherish the many summer days spent in the Hord backyard—sharing stories over a glass of wine, laughing, and enjoying a dip in the pool. Ken and his family had a special way of making everyone feel welcome, comfortable, and at home. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Posted on: Monday, January 12, 2026My SINCERE CONDOLENCES to Flo, Mike, Tyler, Zak and Lucas.
Ken was such a kind , fun, helpful caring friend to me.
I called him ” MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER”.
I could talk to him about anything.
I could TRUST him To keep anything pertaining to my health issues PRIVATE.
I can still hear him laughing 😃 and his gentle thoughtful voice giving me advice without any judgment. Even when I accidentally shut my car (which automatically locked).
My car was running while I was brushing off my car on a very snow stormy evening !
Ken got out his vehicle ( we were in the carpool parking lot home in Barrie from working in Newmarket).
He was helping me clean off my snow covered car. Then Ken said you’re good to go then I couldn’t open my car because my key was in the ignition. Well Ken said what the hell did you do Liz?
I said I didn’t know it would lock. So Ken said you have your spare 🔑 Key right? I said NO it’s at home!
Long story short he had me get in his car and we left the parking lot onwards to Ken and Flo house.
Yes my car was still running got to Ken’s house. Ken was in a hurry it was PARENT TEACHER NIGHT and Flo and Ken had to leave asap. I called a tow truck to come and unlock my car.
Ken asked Tyler to take me to my car ( tow truck driver would be there in about an hour) anfd off Ken and Flo left while in such a hurry he was half laughing at me a half shaking his head about my not carrying my spare key ! I’m pretty sure Ken had some words with Flo about my ” stupidity ” 🙄 😃.
Any how once COVID reared its ugly head Ken and I had to cancel our coffee visit thinking perhaps
COVID and its restrictions wouldn’t last too long and see each other soon. Unfortunately we didn’t see each other again yes we did manage a few phone calls and then the both of us had serious health issues to deal with that took alot of our own times.
I called Ken to give him my news re my health no answer left a message for him to give me a call.
I received a call from Flo to let me know that Ken wasn’t able to speak with me . I hung up the phone after conversation with Flo knowing that I would never have another conversation with Ken.
I cried after I hung up my phone. I knew that without a miracle or cure that Ken my dear friend
MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER was on a very sad journey from the terrible disease that robbed Ken of his own personality his unique special kindness and caring and of his deep love of Flo and his sons and friends. I kept in touch with Flo and I just have to say this. Flo held her own whenever we spoke she’s strong and very brave. Especially when she was diagnosed with cancer she really amazed me. Flo had so much to deal with and she got through it one day at a time . Flo has big shoulders to carry all that she had to do with Ken’s illness and her cancer. I’m in awe of her!
GOODBYE MY DEAR FRIEND AND “BROTHER ” . FLY FREE FROM THIS TERRIBLE DISEASE THAT ROBBED ALL WHO LOVED AND CARED ABOUT YOU KEN.
THANKS FOR BEEING A WONDERFUL GREAT FRIEND !
