Lois E. Holtom

We are saddened to announce the passing of Lois Eldene Holtom, age 90 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario on March 21, 2024.

Lois was born March 15, 1934, in Nottawasaga Township, Ontario to Margaret (formerly Shook) and John (Jack) Davidson and is predeceased by her parents, stepmother Edith, and husband Garth.

Married July 23, 1953 to Garth Holtom, Lois completed teachers college, started her family and went on to teach for many years at Macville Public School west of Bolton, Ontario.  Later moving to Horseshoe Valley in the Barrie / Orilla, Ontario area she had successful years working in real estate.

Her big heart took her volunteer work to the Rotary Club in Bolton and to campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society.  She was also a big supporter of SPCA and Covenant House for homeless youth.

Lois loved to travel and anything “water” including boating, beaches, swimming, the ocean and was well regarded from her Bridge Club in Bolton to her friends in the Sugarbush Community in Oro / Medonte (Horseshoe Valley).

She is survived by her 2 children Bruce (Kim) of Snow Valley, Phyllis (Rene) of Horseshoe Valley, 4 Grandchildren Charlotte, Ben, Megan (Eric), James, 2 Great Grandchildren Liam and Sienna and her sister Marilyn Brett of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Sincere thanks to the wonderful caring staff of Grove Park Home in Barrie, Ontario and the caring staff in the emergency and respiratory units of Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie.  All of these people were very instrumental in making Lois feel comfortable and loved in her final weeks and days.

A Celebration of Life will be planned and announced.

    Phyllis and family,
    So very sorry to hear of Lois’ passing. You were such a wonderful daughter and friend to your Mom. I have so many fond memories of her, including her being one of the few who affectionately called me “Lynnie”. Sincer condolences at this difficult time.
