Lois Kim Martel

It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Kim Martel announce her passing on Sunday, December 6^th, 2020 with her family by her side and in the comfort of Hospice Simcoe.  She was 66 years old.  Daughter of the late Kenneth and Murdean Bessey.  Kim was born in Montreal in 1954 and spent her childhood in Thorold, Ontario.  She attended Brock University until she joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Weapons Technician, where she met and later married her loving husband of 42 years, Louis Philippe Martel (deceased).

She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her two children and was most contented spending time in the company of family and friends, especially at the family cottage on Manitoulin Island.  Although departed, it would be wrong to say that Kim lost her long battle because she never stopped fighting.  No matter how sick she was, she was always determined, and through her we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.  Instead, she decided that it was simply time to take her place at the great dining room table in the sky for a game of Pass the Ace with Papa, Nanny, Phil, Buster, Mike, and Bob – all who beat her to the Pearly Gates.

Kim is survived by her children, Scott, Tara and son-in-law David ; her sisters Kerry, Cindy, and Kathi and their husbands David and Peter; and her many nephews and nieces - all of whom she loved and cherished deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather outside of the constraints of pandemic restrictions.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Hospice Simcoe.
