Lois Kim Martel

November 23, 1954 - December 6, 2020

Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Kim Martel announce her passing on Sunday, December 6th, 2020 with her family by her side and in the comfort of Hospice Simcoe.  She was 66 years old.  Daughter of the late Kenneth and Murdean Bessey.  Kim was born in Montreal in 1954 and spent her childhood in Thorold, Ontario.  She attended Brock University until she joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Weapons Technician, where she met and later married her loving husband of 42 years, Louis Philippe Martel (deceased).

She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her two children and was most contented spending time in the company of family and friends, especially at the family cottage on Manitoulin Island.  Although departed, it would be wrong to say that Kim lost her long battle because she never stopped fighting.  No matter how sick she was, she was always determined, and through her we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.  Instead, she decided that it was simply time to take her place at the great dining room table in the sky for a game of Pass the Ace with Papa, Nanny, Phil, Buster, Mike, and Bob – all who beat her to the Pearly Gates.

Kim is survived by her children, Scott, Tara and son-in-law David ; her sisters Kerry, Cindy, and Kathi and their husbands David and Peter; and her many nephews and nieces - all of whom she loved and cherished deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when family and friends can gather outside of the constraints of pandemic restrictions.  As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Hospice Simcoe. We are saddened to learn that Kim has died. She was always special . Beauty was not skin deep for Kim. Beauty came from the inside and glowed from her. We worried about her health issues these past years, but when we had a chance to see her at Beange /Gilchrist family get togethers she was always positive and her smile just warmed the room. We will miss Kim but know that she is now free from pain, as that is the promise from God.
Deep sympathy to Kerry, Kathi and Cindy and families.
    Hugs Elwood and Edith

Deepest sympathies to you Tara, David & Scott as well to Kim’s sisters, Kerry, Kathi & Cindy & their families. Kim was in failing health for the last couple of months but she was determined to live, such a shock and someone so young after just celebrating a birthday. She was a wonderful hostess with her family in the special family get togethers, her pumpkin /squash soup was a favourite. Her choice of gifts were always well thought out and carefully chosen, She will be missed by all of us but the precious memories will be a comfort. To the family may it help to know that many thoughts are with you in your loss and Kim is now in a better place.
    Murray & Lu
