October 10, 1941 - May 17, 2019

Funeral Details: Monday, June 17 from 5-9 p.m. Ferndale Banquet Hall, 24 Ferndale Industrial Drive, Barrie, L4N 9W2

It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Manfred Bacher, on May 17, 2019 at Royal Victoria Cancer Centre, Barrie, peacefully with his family at his side. Survived by his loving wife Kathleen Eleanor Morrow for 5 days short of 54 years; beloved father to Luise (Colin) Lee and Lynn (Scott) Kirley; grandfather (Opi) to Alanna, Alyssa & Aiden Kirley & Marcus & Jessica Lee; brother to Linda Neu of Hawkstone, Ontario & Gustav Bacher (Traude Waltl) of Kapfenberg, Austria; nieces Christine Lepage & Ingrid (Robert) Barron and many nieces and nephews-in-law and great nieces and nephews and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, August Bacher & Christine Seereiter, older brother Alfred Bacher, sister-in-law Helga Bacher, brother-in-law Hans Neu and nephew-in-law Michael Lepage.

Manfred was born in Kapfenberg, Austria on 10 October, 1941 and in 1960 after his schooling and apprenticeship he immigrated to Canada at age 19.  He was trained as a painter-decorator in Austria, a trade which he maintained throughout his career until his retirement.

Manfred met Kathleen Eleanor Morrow, daughter of William Morrow & Barbara Parker, in Willowdale and after a two year courtship they were married in Willowdale United Church, North York on 22 May, 1965 and resided in that area for about 10 years.  In 1976, one year after Luise was born they moved to Barrie where their second daughter Lynn was born and they have resided in Barrie to the present day.

Manfred’s favourite activities over the years included some golfing but mostly card games, bridge, backgammon, King’s cribbage & poker and he loved going to the casino.  But his favourite passion was shopping for food, cooking, and preparing and serving his favourite foods, schnitzel, jellied tongue and veal bologna to his children, grandchildren and guests.  His signature dish being schnitzel, he was oft heard saying “Have another piece. I don’t want any left-overs.”

Manfred loved his children and grandchildren and they will miss his special attention, his veal bologna and Manner Biscuits and his special “Opi’s soup”, a tradition that Omi will now have to continue.

Manfred will be sadly missed by all of us.

A Celebration of Manfred’s life will be held on Monday, June 17th from 5 to 9 pm at Ferndale Banquet Hall, 24 Ferndale Industrial Drive, Barrie, L4N 9W2.  There will be no formal service but guests are invited to join the family or drop in and share stories and memories of Manfred/Manny. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening, [including jellied tongue & veal bologna].  A private tree planting in his memory will take place with the family at a later date.

    Dear Kathleen, Luise and Lynn and Family;

    Manfred was a ‘regular’ at family parties, picnics and barbecues, and all such gatherings. He was always friendly to everyone, with a smile and a laugh and a hearty handshake. I always enjoyed seeing him and would try to learn a little German from him.
    He will be greatly missed by all of us, so sorry to learn of his passing.
    Sister Jan was your wedding flower girl, something he remembered fondly.

    Love,
    Paul, Catherine, and Mykah
