Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Van Allen on October 21, 2023, at the age of 72, surrounded by her three beloved daughters and her dear sister.

Margaret was the daughter of the late Edmund and Irene Sevigny of Sudbury, ON.  Loving mother of Elizabeth McKinnon (Daniel), Catherine McKinnon, and Melanie Van Allen Thorne.  Cherished grandma of Brianna Damalas (Paul), Ryan Annecca, Ranehl Van Allen Thorne, Meela Van Allen Thorne, Kali Van Allen Thorne.  She treasured her role as a grandmother and brought joy to their lives with her warmth and affection, and the moments that they shared will be cherished forever.  She is survived by three siblings and had a unique and loving bond with her sister, Mary Therrien.  Margaret will also be missed by Maven, the family dog who remained faithfully by her side, offering comfort and companionship.

With an incredible dedication to her profession, Margaret served as a nurse for an impressive 47 years, providing comfort and healing to countless individuals during their times of need.  Margaret's green thumb was a testament to her love of gardening, and her gardens bloomed with beauty.  She also had a deep passion for crime shows of all kinds, and her enthusiasm for them was infectious. Her joy extended to the simple pleasures of life, such as window shopping, where she found delight.

A Celebration of Life to remember Margaret will be held at a later date.  Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.peacefultransition.ca

In her memory, donations can be made to the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, ON or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

What a lovely tribute to a wonderful human. Although we all lose when individuals like this pass, we all gain an appreciation and lesson of who we could and should inspire to be.

She provided a clear example of that goal and inspiration.

My condolences and hugs to everyone who knew her.

What a lovely tribute written for your mother. I had the honour of meeting and spending time with Margaret through my friendship with Liz, always a very kind and loving individual. My condolences Liz to you, Daniel and the entire family. This is a sad time, but knowing that your mom is not suffering anymore and is at peace, will help you all heal overtime. Keep all of those special moments and memories close to your heart. Your mother has her wings now, and will be looking down on all of you as you continue your journey of your life until you meet again. Hugs and Love.

Liz, Catherine, Melanie and all the grandkids, my deepest condolences to everyone. I remember all the times visiting your mom and the beautiful flower gardens she created. From the poppies to the hanging door leading you into her garden masterpiece, just being surrounded by her flowers made you feel like you were in a magical place. I will always have lots of loving and fond memories from a child into adulthood. Her big warm hugs, loving personality and her being Auntie Margaret, she will always remain in my heart and my thoughts. Sending you all lots of hugs. XOXO Jenn Sevigny

Mel, Catherine and Liz…Been thinking so much this past week about the good old days with all the birthday and holiday celebrations, and pool days on Murray Avenue in Naughton! Hope you are able to find comfort in those memories, and so many more. Love for you all, and for Aunt Margaret.
