It comes with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret May (Campbell) Clarkson on February 12, 2024, at the age of 85.
Our beautiful mother was an essential part of the family. She loved and supported us in every way she could. She was a strong, brave, and resilient woman who fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Margaret will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
Margaret loved meeting and connecting with new people, and she was an avid baker and known for her love of desserts. Margaret had a passion for music and could easily play the piano by ear. Animals held a special place in her heart, none more so than her beloved cat, her faithful companion through the years. Finding solace in the serenity of nature, she found joy in observing its beauty from her balcony.
Margaret grew up on a dairy farm near Thornton, Ontario, with her parents, Angus and Sterling (Carr) Campbell and her four siblings: Hoyle, Dorothy, Norma, and Lloyd. She attended Barrie Central Collegiate, followed by the Toronto Business College. Margaret worked at the Department of Defence and Workman’s Compensation Board before meeting her dear Husband, Lorne Clarkson. They raised their three children, Angus, Valerie, and Leanne, in the Palgrave area. The family eventually moved to Cookstown. After Lorne’s passing, Margaret at the age of 43, with hard work and dedication, successfully raised three loving teenagers. She later moved to Barrie and worked with the Red Cross until 1992, during which she brought joy into the homes of those requiring extra care.
Margaret remarried in 1994 to Henry Rombach. Henry was a caring husband who sadly passed away in 2017. Margaret’s joy was her family. Margaret is survived by Hoyle (Marie) Campbell, Dorothy Brownley, Norma (Wayne) Sykes, and Lloyd (Libby) Campbell. Her children: Angus Clarkson, Valerie (Laurier) McFarlane, Leanne (Robert) Clarkson Tiahnybok. She also adored her grandchildren: Matthew McFarlane, Andrea McFarlane, Lauryn Tiahnybok, Deryk (Ashley, Hazyl) Tiahnybok, Amanda (Vince, Wesley, Olivia) DeBoer, and Matt Duczak.
Margaret will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 170 Steel Street in Barrie, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception and refreshments to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church hall.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the RVH Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. www.cancer.ca
Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and everyone who offered Margaret exceptional care, compassion, and support throughout the years and during her final days.
