Margaret Rose Chellew

June 20, 1935 - May 14, 2026

Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

It is with heavy hearts that our family announce the passing of Margaret, just shy of her 91st birthday. A beautiful, very well-loved lady with a zest for life and an unforgettable laugh. After a brief illness, Margaret passed away peacefully at home on May 14th, 2026 with her daughter and grandchildren by her side, and her daughter’s dog, Archie on her lap. Margaret was born in Toronto on June 20th, 1935 and was the daughter of Scottish immigrants, Alfred and Sarah Gibb.

Margaret will finally be reunited with the love of her life, Gordon Chellew who passed away in 2018. Over the 58 years they were together, Margaret and Gord built a wonderful life as a team, filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. Margaret was the best mother in the world to the late Stanley Lewis (2018) and to Wendy Chellew. She was the loving friend and stepmother to the late Karen Kenny (2022) and to her husband, Deane. She was a special mother-in-law to Jackie Lewis (Kari). Cherished Nana of Melanie Comeau (Tom), John Lewis, James Kenny (Cassie) and Kaitlyn Burden (Devan). Loving Great Grandmother of Ben, Natalie and Jack Comeau, and Eleanor and Arthur Burden. She was the favourite Aunt to many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephew. Margaret was predeceased by her sisters Ann McKerrell and Violet Johnston, and her brother, Fred Gibb. She is survived by her brother Robert Gibb (Wendy).

Margaret thoroughly enjoyed her 26-year career as an administrative assistant for INCO. Over the years, she loved hosting family and friends for any occasion and set a table like no other, always making sure that everyone felt welcome at it. After her retirement in 1994, Margaret volunteered at Bloorview Children’s Hospital, took up the game of golf, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and spent lots of time with her grandchildren. In 1999, Margaret and Gord moved to their home in the community of Canterbury Common in Port Perry and had the time of their lives living there. Margaret was a loving caregiver to Gord through his lengthy battle with glaucoma. In recent years, Margaret was a resident at the Village of Taunton Mills in Whitby, where she volunteered on the memory care floor and developed many new friendships. Margaret’s journey this past year was eased by the loving care of her devoted daughter, Wendy.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Drs. Hyshka, Shure, Lai and Morris for their care and compassion.

For those who wish to honour Margaret’s memory through donation, the family requests that you kindly support The Scott Mission (donate@scottmission.com).

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Peaceful Transition, Barrie. There will be a private family interment at a later date at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 2700 Kingston Rd., Scarborough.

Because of her friendly, kind, outgoing personality, my mom and I only became friends with Margaret in the last four years at Taunton Mills. Her mission seemed to be to bring joy and a smile to anyone she met. We will always be grateful for her friendship.

Sincere Condolences to Wendy and family. May Margaret Rest In Peace.
