Maria “Ria” Francina Devries

Passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, at the age of 90.  Born in Rotterdam, Holland to the late Bob and Mary van Drielen.  Beloved wife of Harm “Hank” for 68 years.  She was a loving sister to Antonia “Toni” with her husband Gord, and aunt to Bob and Mary-Anne.

Maria “Ria” immigrated to Canada at the age of 19, embarking on a new life with strength and courage.  Ria settled in Nobleton where she and her husband Hank built their very first home together.  They later moved to Newmarket, then Midhurst to live near her family and eventually settling in Barrie.  Ria had a passion for sewing which led to her job at the Hudson Bay Company in Toronto.  Ria continued to enjoy her love for sewing as a hobby after staying home full-time.  Ria and Hank loved travelling in their RV throughout North America, leisurely seeing places at their own pace.  Ria loved to bake and cook, including traditional Dutch dishes.  Ria also had a love of dogs which included her beloved Sheba and Misty.
