Marie Edna Pifher (nee McConnell)

July 4, 1923 - May 7, 2021

Funeral Details:

Marie Edna Pifher (nee McConnell), 97, died peacefully on May 7, 2021 at Victoria Village Manor in Barrie, Ontario. She is survived by her devoted children Maurice, Marissa (Jim Fleming), and Martin, and her cherished grandchildren Daniel, Meredith, Steven, Cynthia, Lauren, and Emily. She is predeceased by her husband, Albert Earl Pifher.

Marie was born on July 4, 1923 in Brantford, Ontario to Wellington McConnell and Edna Britton. She married Albert, her partner of 66 years, on September 30, 1943, and they built their own home in rural Paris. Marie made a happy home for her children, neighbours, and extended family and friends. Gardening, be that to generate beautiful flower gardens or fruit and vegetables, was not only an avocation, but also a way to enhance her home and enrich her family’s meals. Marie was dedicated to making preserves and canning vegetables from her assorted fruit trees and large gardens. She greatly enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and producing numerous intricate, colourful quilts.

A hardworking, kindhearted soul, Marie worked many years at local restaurants and at Penman's, where she developed excellent sewing skills. Marie had a passion for creating infant wear, children’s and adult clothing, draperies, and high-quality costumes. Out of a strong interest in people, Marie most enjoyed talking with customers and coworkers. She helped people in any situation where she could. Notable inner fortitude helped her successfully juggle employment, family life, and time with friends.

Marie was a social, active woman who loved to laugh and play many games especially euchre, and was appreciated for her attentive listening ear, and sage, practical advice. She could relate easily to anyone of any generation. Even in their teens, her children’s friends were often about, appreciating Marie’s genuine interest in their lives. Marie will be remembered by those around her for her cheerful smile and positive outlook on life. Marie and Albert were avid campers and travellers as they loved outdoor adventures. They also enjoyed many years in St. Pete’s Beach in Florida, where they made lifelong friends.

Interment and a private celebration of life will take place in Paris, Ontario at a later date. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Victoria Village Manor for their dedicated effort in caring for Marie.

Donations to the charity of your choice would be a fitting memorial.
