Matthew (Matt) Peter Campbell Bird passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 38.

Matthew was born in Newmarket on December 21, 1987, lived in Holland Landing his whole life.  Matthew worked as an HVAC Technician for 20 years at Golden Plug Air Conditioning, where his workmanship and kindness was valued by coworkers and customers alike.  Matthew enjoyed hockey, loved the band Rush, and loved a good inappropriate joke, his chuckle was infectious.

Matthew is survived by his mother Patricia Bird (née Campbell) of Newmarket, his father Peter Bird of Holland Landing, stepmother Deborah Champ, sister Jennifer Bird of Aurora, niece Kate Bird (Bird) and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will take place on a later date.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation the Southlake Foundation, all proceeds will be directed to the ICU where the doctors and nurses touched Matthew and his family.  Southlake Foundation | ICU

    I can’t express how sorry I was to hear this sad news. I have known Matthew’s mom Pat since we were kids on Richardson Drive in Aurora.
    It is not easy to lose a child of any age and I speak from my own personal experience, having lost my son to cancer at 36.
    My deepest condolences to the Bird and Campbell families at this difficult time.
