Maurice Keogh passed away on December 12, 2025 in Barrie, Ontario at the tender age of 95. Predeceased by his wife, Theresa Lynch (2004), he is survived by his children Jacqui Kosterman (Wally: Joran (Carolyn: William+, Joseph, Benjamin, Isabel, Norah), Kate VandenBerg (Jason: Baby VandenBerg), Theresa van Warmerdam (Andrew: Alice, Peter, Damian, Timothy, Felicity) and Peter); Barry Keogh (Una: Ronan, Noah); Kelly Keogh; Natalie Flynn (Andrew: Matt, Makenna, Sarah, Chris) and Nolan Keogh (Liz: Patrick, Jessica, Connor).

Born fourth of eleven children in Colgan, Ontario, Dad was raised on faith, family, hard work and a good party. His company, COMCO Service Station Construction and Maintenance, his many volunteer positions (Optimist Club of Barrie, Barrie Integrated Baseball Association, St. John Vianney Parish, RVH Santa Claus on December 24), and his one-line ‘wisdoms’ were shining examples of love in action, to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dad was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed making maple syrup, hunting and fishing. Dad’s idea to combine faith, family and fun times into a family reunion and Mom’s “sure, let’s have it here” agreement, lead to the inaugural Keogh 500 in 1979, which continues 46 years later. The memories of these family reunions are epic and a pillar of Dad’s legacy.

We are thankful for the wonderful neighbours at Springhurst, the PSW care he received at home and from the staff at Woods Park, The Royal Victoria Hospital, and The Barrie Manor.

Maurice Keogh, the man, the legend, the owner of that massive handshake, our Dad. Well done, good and faithful servant.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to the Keogh family. Through our long association with COMCO and Dykstra Fuels Limited, we were fortunate to share not only a strong professional relationship, but a truly special personal one. My father (Leo) and I deeply valued the friendship we shared with Maurice. Being only days apart in age, our fathers bond was filled with fun, laughter, and mutual respect, creating many wonderful memories over the years, and amazing quick birthday “celebrations” at our gas station. An annual event. LOL

As the” junior partner” in Dykstra Fuels, I had the honour of inheriting that relationship. It was a rare and special thing — respect and fun! Who else builds gas stations and fuel depots on a handshake? That trust and camaraderie meant a great deal to my father, and it continues to mean a great deal to me. Maurice will always be remembered fondly and will be deeply missed. R.I.P.

I knew Maurice Keogh as a businessman and as a client. Part of his legacy, I am sure, will be the standards that he set in his business. He was honest, forthright and a true “man of his word”.

    To the keogh family:

The Forget family send our prayers and thoughts to all family members. Your dad and mom raised a beautiful family of caring and faith- filled sons and daughters who have lived your life as Mom and Dad before you. My husband and I knew your mom and dad when they lived on the corner of Yonge St. and Big Bay Point Road. I have had the privilege of teaching Jacquie and of working under Barry’s leadership at St. Monica’s. Maurice will be missed but he lives on in his sons and daughters. Jamie ans Sherry send their prayers from Nicaragua. Maurice rest in peace with the love of your life, Theresa.

Dear Keogh Family…our sincere condolences on the loss of a legend. It is hard to imagine that God could create a better man than your Dad. Our family was the benefactors of unlimited Keogh generosity. As young kids, we learned from Mo how to treat friends, cherish family, blanket all of it with faith and use those pillars to enjoy a long, fun and happy life. We are forever grateful and will cherish Mo’s memory forever! Rest in Peace!

Hi everyone. I will be talking to the Keogh family over the next few days, but, for the moment, I just want to say that the occurrence of this sad event in December 2025 winter conditions with snow on the ground reminds me of how grateful I was, as a young man, for the many Thanksgiving and Christmas-time dinners he hosted and in which he and Theresa always included me (also my sister Anne and our mother Henrietta), and to remark that he (and the rest of the Keogh family too) were always supportive and positive. Looking back, I think that Uncle Maurice was a reflection of the warmth and good sense of Canadian Irish-Roman-Catholic families at their best (of which we have many examples in our extended family). RIP Uncle Maurice.

    To the Keogh family,
Gord and I were very sorry to hear about Uncle Maurice’s passing.
I reflect on a story when I was learning to drive and Uncle Maurice volunteered to give me some pointers.
I drove for a short distance and he said that he thought that I could use a suggestion on how to stay in the middle of my lane.
There was a hood ornament on Dad’s car and Uncle Maurice suggested that I keep my eyes on that ornament and it might help me stay in the centre of the lane. So I locked my eyes on the hood ornament. We drove along a little further and Uncle Maurice had me pull over. He said, “OK, new idea. No more looking at the ornament because it is causing you not to focus on the road.” He reminded me to look at the road up ahead, making sure that I was not too close to the white lines on the left and to the shoulder on the right. With that correction there was a big difference.I was not oversteering.
Uncle Maurice was calm, supportive and positive. He even told me that he thought that I would be a good driver in the future.
When I drive now, almost 60 years later, I still recall Uncle Maurice’s words of advice.
Uncle Maurice will be greatly missed.

I have known Jacquie and her fabulous Keogh family since we were children. We attended the same masses, went to the same schools – our parents were friends and 10 children between them. Maurice’s diverse family background also weaved into my bosses friendship and we briefly started a Blueberry Pancake Tuesday tradition here in Thornton reliving all the stories of when my nickname of Fuzzball began in Grade 7 or the lifelong stories of the Keogh 500 came to life. He was a unique storyteller and an involved listener. He was a hard worker and loved a great party. Even the last times I saw him with Jacquie steadfastly attending to him, he was a man of duties and routines. Maurice will always be remembered as a fair, fun and good person. I know Theresa will be waiting for you with a tuna casserole in hand, Mr Keogh. You will be missed, good man.

My prayers and thoughts go out to Nolan and the whole Keogh family. I attended school with Nolan, from Kindergarten at St. John Vianney to Grade 13, at St. Joseph’s High School. Your Father was a kind and positive soul. I am so sorry to hear about him passing away. He left such a positive mark in our community of Barrie and our faith community. Nolan and his siblings, continue the legacy of their kind, caring father and mother. Your father lives on in all the kind deeds each of your do each day. I can still hear his roaring laugh and see his huge smile each time I met him. Blessings and love to all of you!

Condolences to the family of Mo. I curled with him at the Barrie Curling Club and our team got an 8 ender in Feb/15. The skip was Bob Brown. Vice -Mo, myself 2nd Lee Davis and lead Lyle Paton. I have the picture of the 4 of us with the 8 rocks in the rings on my office wall. An 8 ender is so rare in curling like getting a hole in one on the golf course. I enjoyed playing with him. D my sympathy and condolences to the entire Keogh family. Mau was an unforgettable man. He was kind and fun and brought happiness into so many lives. It was especially touching to watch him in action as Santa at the annual Christmas caroling venture. He made old and young feel so good. Mau always was modest about his ability as Santa saying that he didn’t feel that he looked much like Santa. Mau was a wonderful man and an example of how to live one’s life. It is sad to see that he has passed but we have been so fortunate to have had him with us for so long.

Sending condolences to the Keogh family. Mr. Keogh, as he was known to me, was such a wonderful person. He hired me for a few summers – a girl, to work alongside his crew at COMCO, in the 80s! He always looked my way with what seemed like trust that I could do the work though he must of had his doubts 🙂 I think of him often as a role model for kindness in the world. I am sorry for the Keogh family’s loss. He was exactly the kind of person the world needs more of these days.
