PARKER, Murray

Born April 11, 1929 in Windsor Mills, Quebec, and son of the late Frederick and Anita Parker, Murray Parker died of a rare brain disease, progressive supra-nuclear palsy (PSP), on May 1, 2017 at the Coleman Care Centre in Barrie, Ontario. Murray is survived by his wife of 30 years, Shirley (Wasson) Parker; one daughter, Deborah Noble of Florenceville, New Brunswick; one sister, Joan Olesen from Kitchener, ON; three step-daughters, Natalie Ferguson (Greg), Jocelyn McArthur (Peter), both of Barrie, ON, and Janice LeDirach Griffiths (Pascal) of Paris, France; four grandchildren, Kirk Parker, Ashley MacDonald (Adam), Adam and Laura Noble; and four step-grandchildren, Cole and Graham Ferguson, and Noan and Abbie LeDirach Griffiths; as well as three great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. Murray is predeceased by his son, James, brother, Ronald, son-in-law, Jack Noble, and his parents.

Murray retired in 1991 from Irving Paper, Saint John, NB, as Instrumentation Supervisor. He had previously worked ten years at Domtar in Windsor Mills, Quebec.

Murray was OCB Squadron 7th 11th Hussars in Windsor, PQ, the 8th Hussars OCB Squadron in Sussex, NB and CO Third Field Artillery Saint John, NB, as well as supplementary Reserve for 27 years. Murray was an avid athlete, having tried out for the New York Rangers hockey team in 1948, been badminton champion several times in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and having biked from NB to ON with his wife, Shirley, at the age of 64. He will be buried in Innisfil, ON, where he has resided for the past 12 years, at the St. James United Church Cemetery. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at St. James United Church, Stroud, Sunday May 14th, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PSP research at www.parkinson.ca or to the St. James United Church. Murray will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
