Norma Ann Smurthwaite

1936-05-25 - 2016-09-02

Funeral Details:

SMURTHWAITE, Norma Ann (nee Givens)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Norma on Friday, September 2, 2016 peacefully, at home, surrounded by the love of family and friends.  Beloved wife and best friend of John for over 60 years.  Loving mother of Joan (Randy) Flegel and Cheryl (Tom) Richardson.  Cherished grandmother (Nan) of Craig (Lindsay), Jo-Anne (Jose), Lynne (Chris) and Cindy (Jesus).  Loving sister of Bob (Sharan).  Norma will be lovingly remembered by Norm and Carol and by many dear friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Norma lived her life full of love and kindness for others always honest and ready for fun, enjoying a card game, vacation travel, the Blue Jays, garage sales, crafts, curling and the occasional visit to the casino.  She continues to be an inspiration to us all.

A celebration of life will take place on November 26, 2016 from 2-4 p.m., at the Stroud Curling Club, 7883 Yonge Street, Innisfil.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.

We will forever be grateful to Dr. Mike McConvey for his dedicated, compassionate and superb care and to the visiting nurses during Mom’s final days, especially Christine.

“You will always be with us in our hearts”

John, Joan, Randy, Cheryl, Tom, Craig, Lyndsay, Lynn, Chris, Jo-Anne, Jose, Cindy, Jesus (& Annie). As we all know there are no words that can comfort at this time but we just want you to know that you are all in our thoughts.  This is a very tough time for all.  We will certainly miss our ‘Normie’ & all the good times we had together.  We have so many good & so many funny memories of our trips to Florida, Quebec, West coast, Europe, St. Jacobs, etc.  We will always remember her beautiful smile, her keen wit, her love of Charlie & Elvis & her infectious laugh that could have a whole room laughing just listening to her.  We hope they have garage sales in heaven!   Ed will miss his card partner!
    Love
