McLeod, Norman Stuart: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Norm at Hill House Hospice, Richmond Hill on Thursday May 2, 2019. Beloved husband of 32 years to Khuan Seow. Dear brother of Katheryn Bednis (Glen), Andrew McLeod (Jackie), Ian McLeod (Melanie). Fondly remembered by his 2 nieces and 8 nephews and families. Dearly missed by his sisters-in-law Eng, Heok, Hong, Suan, Poh Kuan, Jenny and brothers-in-law Cheng, Hock, Kiat, William and Q. Special family friend of Hock Kee and Hazel. Predeceased by his parents Stewart and Margaret (nee Kirk) McLeod. Norm was a devoted husband, dutiful brother and filial son. He kept his word and always lent a hand when he saw the need or asked. Norm had a varied career as a hydrogeologist, computer programmer and data analyst in the mining, consulting, insurance, library and banking sectors. He loved acquiring knowledge and attended the universities of Waterloo, Dalhousie, Berkeley and Wilfrid Laurier. Norm loved to read and was a fount of knowledge about history, geography, science fiction and much trivia - this made him a whiz at crossword puzzles. He delighted in learning about other cultures in his travels; this made him very proud to be a Canadian and he delighted in the success stories of the new Canadians he met and worked with. His generosity extended to being a sponsor in PLAN International of a child in a developing country for more than 35 years. Cremation. A time of remembrance and interment will take place at a later date in Cobden, Ontario. If desired, please consider a donation to Hill House Hospice in Norm's memory. I was so fortunate to have known Norm for so many years while he worked at TD, and afterwards during his all too brief retirement. He was incredibly smart, hardworking, and funny (especially when dealing with our technology partners and TRIMS – an inside joke that Norm would very much appreciate). He was a person of great character who was always happy, willing, and available to help others. As someone who is also from the Ottawa Valley, Norm and I would reminisce about our time there, and our shared love for apples (he did love his apples). I will miss his company so much, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to know him for as long as I did. Rest in peace my good friend.

It was my pleasure to work with Norm for a number of years. His integrity and high level of passion and caring were apparent from the first day we worked together. Norm’s varied and interesting career and thirst for knowledge really set him apart. I really wish he had an opportunity to enjoy a longer retirement. Rest in peace Norm.

    Khuan,

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I still remember Norm tried to explain to us how the Edwardian houses were like in Barrie and how your washroom’s heating floor was bulit when we visited you in Barrie. He was such a knowledgeable, curious friend.

Khuan, please stay in touch and let us together walk through this difficult time. My thought will be with you.

Norm traveled a long way with Khuan to see me in Lampeter in Wales, UK, and later in Hong Kong, some twenty years ago. May I say it again after these years that these were some good times that he had shared with Suan and me. We cherish his affection and care of others. Rest in peace, my dear brother-in-law.

Norm was always kind and considerate. I cherish the good times we had – a few days in Whistler, whale watching in Newfoundland, houseboating on the lake and many happy days just relaxing although Norm often kept busy outdoors working with wood. In Hong Kong when Norm saw the hordes of egrets in trees in Starling Inlet, he said, it’s ok to live here if there are places like this.

There are so many things I will always remember about Norman. He always took that second piece of pumpkin pie, he admired my “charger plates”, he loved biscuits. He was someone I knew I could always count on, a strong shoulder to lean on. We loved going to the library, spent many hours in the winter skating in Sudbury and playing in the mountain. He amazed me with all the knowledge he had but was very down to earth about everything. Forever missed, but you will never, never be forgotten. Love from your sister
