After being diagnosed with cancer and given a two-year prognosis, Pat faced it with her trademark grit and “hold my beer” attitude. Ten years later, she passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Beloved wife of Bill for 53 years and loving mother to Sarah (Kevin). Proud Nana to Drake (Cheryl), Austin (Jai), and Alexis (Alex) and cherished “dog-nana” to Luna.

Survived by her siblings Jim (Pat), Marni (Bob) and sister-in-law Joan (Laddy). Special aunt to Lyndsy (Shane) and Kristen (Ryan) and great aunt to Carson, Brooklyn and Abigail. Pat will be forever remembered by her extended family and by the countless friends she made along the way.

Predeceased by her parents, John and Eleanor, and her nephew, Craig.

For 34 years, Pat worked as the librarian at the Simcoe County Law Library in Barrie and was an active member of the Ontario Law Association. Her dedication, kindness, and wit left a lasting impact on those she worked with.

Pat and Bill spent countless summer days at their trailer on the Severn River, where they formed lifelong friendships with people from near and far. Pat loved kayaking, taking jaunts in their little tin boat, and of course partaking in cocktail hour. She also had a passion for travelling, especially cruises, tending her vegetable and flower gardens, and relaxing with a glass of wine in the hot tub.

In 2021, they said goodbye to Barrie and hello to Orillia, “the Sunshine City.” And, in classic Henry style, it wasn’t long before they had made new friends and filled their days with more laughter and memories.

Pat had the perfect smile and a laugh that made everyone want to join in. So, while you may shed a tear because you miss her, don’t forget she’d rather see you smiling because you knew her.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Evans and his team, and to Dr. Yu, whose care and compassion guided Pat through years of treatment and gave her the strength to keep fighting no matter what life threw her way. Deepest gratitude as well to all the staff at Mariposa House Hospice, you are truly angels on earth. You took the best care of Pat (and showed great patience with Bill and Sarah!).

In lieu of flowers, donation in Pat’s memory to Mariposa House Hospice  would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Ellen and I are sad to hear of Pat’s passing. We certainly do smile when we think of Pat whom we have known since she began at the Simcoe County Law Library. She was a real leader among Ontario’s law librarians and was constantly at the heart of all major issues affecting lawyers and their vital access to legal information. She was more than a librarian to us; she was our friend. Condolences also to Bill whom Mike met long before he met Pat as Bill was the referee for Sunday night hockey.

Bill and Sarah, my condolences to you both on the loss of a great wife, mother and friend. I first met Pat when she started as the librarian at the Simcoe County Law Library at the Courthouse. She guided us through some interesting times. She was a great friend and I enjoyed popping in to see her at the Courthouse on most days. We lived nearby on Steel Street and she would sometimes stop to talk. She sure loved her time on the Severn.
    She will be missed greatly.

Bill has been a long time supporter of labour aligning with the College mandate, and Pat was always there with him. On behalf of the faculty union of Local 350 at Georgian College, we have appreciated all of the support you both have given us. And we will miss your generous smile and sense of humour, Pat. And Bill, remember that you’re always part of our family as well.

Pat was always full of energy and gusto. She was a most willing participant in any political decisions and, when asked, was willing to provide advice as she did for me in the 2006 federal Liberal leadership contest. She always gave of herself. It was fun to be around Pat. She will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Henry family. Pat will be greatly missed by so many people. In 1996, when I was a new, young lawyer in Barrie, trying to figure out how to do research, how to navigate the court house, and how to fit in, Pat was there to guide me, make me smile, and help in so many ways. Those were the days when you had to go into the stacks and read a book to figure out a legal problem, and Pat would always take the time to point me in the right direction. Her deep laughter was infectious. May her memory be a blessing to everyone who knew and loved her.

It was always a joy to chat with Pat at the library. She was always very helpful and very entertaining. Never at a loss for words and a good hearty laugh. She always made the task of finding the right legal references a much more enjoyable experience. We were all enriched a bit by knowing Pat.

    Dear Bill and family,

So very sorry for your loss.

I first met Pat when I started Law School as a mature student and needed to use a law library near home. Pat went out of her way to help me get access to the library outside of court hours and she was always there when I needed research help. Pat was more than a librarian at our Law Library, she listened to us gripe, she lifted us up when we were down, she made us laugh, she gave us sage life advice, she lent us tabs and robes in a pinch, helped us when we were having tech issues and deadline crunches, and she did her job with grace and compassion. When she retired, our library just never quite had the same comfortable feel it did when Pat was at the desk. Pat was a special person and I am grateful to have known her.

I recall meeting Pat in 2000, on my first trip to the library as a Simcoe County lawyer. She wasted no time twisting my arm into joining the Library Committee for the SCLA. What followed was 15 years working together (and probably over a 100 library committee meetings )to keep that Library ticking along through floods, renovations, broken fax machines and photocopiers and the electronification of legal research. She loved those books and shelves almost as much as the SCLA folk she would help… Her personality and wit meant she was memorable for most that came across her. The SCLA was better for her service!
